While some of you big spenders are opening up 50/50 and ordering 3x MVP hotcakes, I'm opening 2021 Japan edition for $68/box hunting for a needle in a haystack. It has always been my desire to pull my own '21 Sho cherry blossoms. Hit one .

Got 10/24 PSA 10s on a recent Shohei submission.
Here's some fun ones:

Beautiful foilboard! I need one of those to keep my run going. There's no more retail and hobby versions right?

Alright, time to fess up how many boxes it took.

Out of curiosity, where are you finding those boxes for $68?

Close to 30 over the past six months! Statistically, there's one of these every 100 boxes so I beat the odds . Hit a lot of other nice cards along the way too so it wasn't just the Sho. It was a very enjoyable low pressure rip.

That's awesome. There is nothing better than pulling Sho's out of a pack. It's the way it was meant to be.

They've been up on Amazon Japan for the last two years. With the yen very weak, after picking the lowest cost shipping for ~12 boxes it comes out to 68ish/box USD. I think they are gone now but they have reloaded a few times.

Key reason they have been sitting is because the odds are VERY long to pull any specific parallel with a 200 card checklist and the rookie class sucks. I pulled a few Kirilloffs and four Dean Kremers lol. It is not an automatic W, but better ROI than the other crap being released.

Incredible.

I bet you'll never sell that card. I have some big Ohtani's that I hand pulled and I will never sell unless I'm literally on my deathbed.

Congrats!

I have never pulled a nice Ohtani but I still have the first Ohtani card I bought when I got back into the hobby in 2022 that I also graded myself - 2018 Bowman Purple PSA 7. Doubtful I'll ever sell that card unless I desperately need the money.

You're due - next big rip will yield a nice Sho for ya!

I've been pretty lucky with Sho pulls over the years but nothing tops this 2018 Bowman's Best luck - out of roughly 8 cases of 2018 BB, we pulled 4 of the 50 Ohtani Neophyte Sensations autos. Of course I sold one for $100 and change back in 2019-20 but pretty crazy luck for that one weird card.

I've shown this card before but I'll post it again...

I pulled a '23 Heritage Red Ink auto early last year. I was in a really bad place at the time and was in the middle of rebuilding my life. I was in a new house living a new life and needed something to keep my mind busy. Knowing some of the details, my LCS owner gave me a way too deep discount on a case of Heritage and sitting in my new empty house I pulled an Ohtani Red Ink.

Pulling a card like that in such a dark time in my life was unforgettable, especially since I've been collecting Ohtani for so long. I'm more likely to sell one of my kidneys than to ever sell it.

On a side note: doing much better now

Thank you! Crazy how life works. You never know when a new door will open and who will be on the other side.

Still pinching myself.

Can't have the highs without the lows. Sho collecting helped me through some tough times as well. Very nice card!

Super cool - Japanese cards are pretty deep. Helps that they don't give monopolies to card companies
