Why does a bartender ask how many beers you had and you tell him 4 and he says no you had 5? If you knew how many I had, don't ask!

And why does a bartender tell you you scared the piss out of him when you have one beer and then go to the bathroom for 5 minutes? If I was going to walk out on my tab, wouldn't I have 3 or 4 beers?

Do I come across as someone who'll cheat a bartender?

It's scary how upset people become when you tell them their tax liability after doing their taxes.

If people spent 1% of the time into understanding their finances/taxes that they do on social media they would understand.

Friend 1-
Has an agreement with ex that he can claim youngest kid as dependent. 2023 she did and he didn't fight it. Loses the dependent and any child tax credit. Ends up owing both Fed and Mass.

2024 She uses kid again PLUS his 2 rental properties made 10K MORE in Rent in 24. About 7K more after expenses.

Tell him what he owes and the only question is "What about the windows I put in"

I tell him it's a 5 year item so he writes off 20% a year.

Friend 2- Haven't talked to him yet but it should be a doozy. He is legally married to Friend 1's sister but they have been separated for a few years now. They have been filing jointly because if has been financially beneficial to them. Friend 2's wife says she is not filing jointly because of money he took out of retirement.

So I reach out to Friend 2 and ask them what the $33K he took out of the retirement was used for....."To catch up on bills" I tell him about the penalty he will be assessed. He responds all confidently, "I had them take taxes out"
Yup they took out $3300 in taxes alright. Also he has almost 7K in CC debt forgiven, which is treated as income. Now he is facing an almost $7k tax bill.

That will be fun when I meet with him
