is anyone else like "F this, i will just wait"?

talking about collectors and these 2018 Wax games that people are playing.

i dont own a T206 Honus Wagner, so i think i will be ok if i have to wait for anything that is out in 2018

I'm pretty much at that point right now. I was lucky enough to get some value packs of 2018 bowman and I did buy some blasters at $24 per. There are still some reasonable pre-sales out there for retail.

Hobby? forget it.

Plus, I think so many people are going to take a bath on this, that ebay will be a buyers market post-release.

I am at a point where I want to just sell every remaining case, but I have staff now and they need the work.

So I priced my breaks at a price lower than what I could have sold the cases sealed for. I am leaving money on the table, but I also keep my staff happy and hopefully my customers appreciate it.

It is crazy.

Not sure what you mean by games. As a shop I have been cut by as much as 90-100% on products this year and if Ohtani keeps playing like he has been it's going to stay like that.

Be pissed at the distributors that are holding back like they never have been before.

If I were to get the normal 8-10 cases of bowman I order year after year for my shop I would be happy selling them for $95 a box because I would have the volume to do so.

But now I have 2 cases instead of 10 so I have to sell for a larger margin because I will not be able to sell in volume.

oh, i wasnt calling out LCS' (i dont have any here), just overall.

$165 is stupid for a 24 count box of bowman cards (yes, i GET it, they are moving for that)

I ate a massive amount of crow today , and I'm still picking out feathers between my teeth!

I went to my LCS and I bought *cringe* Diamond Kings!! I am going to hell for this... but it was a fun break, and it's the one Fakeini Baseball cards I really like looks wise. I will also admit it was fun breaking the boxes. Lots of low end Shotani's, but fun never the less. Some decent autos too.

Same thing with distributors...your distributor sells to you at a 6-8% margin. How come they are able to stay in business but you think BO would be in the red? Distributors survive at 6-8% due to volume. BO survives at 50-200 profit per case due to volume.

And yes, if you call BO they will pay you very well for your cases. The last guy who came here and complained finally picked up the phone to call BO, and guess what? BO bought his cases.
I'm a very successful owner, thank you. I don't have overhead to pay like BO and I'm retired so it's all for fun, I can afford to make $20 per box. How do they pay for staff, website, commence, advertising, etc. "Blowout does not pay retail, they are a distributor"! I do and i see the pricing on everything and I'm still getting bowman for (non jumbo) less than $852/case. They are getting it for much much less. If I tell you how much a retailer gets NT basketball and how much a distributor gets it for, you'd shake your head.. At the least 1k profit per case at first pre-sale batch. But nothing wrong with that if the consumer buys, thats how they make money right.

I'm not complaining of their prices, i'm just trying to make a point that there is no way they are only making $200/case. I sell my bowman boxes for 95 to my customers if they open in the shop so they don't resell. i still make $200/case. how much are cases now on BO, over 2k? Do the math

Ohtanimania must be in full effect if we are buying Panini now.

With exchange rate in Canada Gypsy Queen right now is 180 a box at my LCS. If they get any Bowman I’m guessing it will be in that range.

Seriously. $7 a pack

The other thing that really sucks is I enjoy putting together sets and at these prices that will be hard.

As a shop owner as well this 100% accurate.

They should have split this series up. Had hobby box released with the same checklist minus Othani autos and had jumbo boxes with a chance to get an Othani. This would leave the hobby boxes in an affordable range for collectors who wanted to open the product and are not concerned with the Othani craziness. But on the other hand I’m sure we would see $500 jumbo boxes

You get out of here with your mature financial decision-making! We don't need your kind in here - products have to be HYPED!

Who's paying these insanely high prices if everyone on here (and I've talked to locally) is like "eh, too high!"

You clearly haven't been reading all of my posts or others then. Nobody is denying that BO gets cases at a good price AT THE BEGINNING, when they listed cases for $1299 in November and sold out. But since that time, with every price increase, they have had to go to the secondary market to acquire MORE. As someone mentioned earlier, they were PAYING $2,000 per case when their website price was $2250 or whatever it was. BO pays to play just like anyone else buying at a higher price. It is a proven fact that many of their cases are only sold at a $200-$300 profit so stop refuting what others know to be completely true.

Put the books down and go get some common sense!!! Lol. Who in hell would sell ALL their cases at pre-sell knowing this product will more than likely double. Maybe that's why you don't work for BO, they'd be bankrupt. Lmao!! Just because it's says sold out you think BO is out of product and is looking for more. Stop watching how to be a car salesman where product devalues as time passes. Lol.. Stop already dude.. I see numbers daily, You assume... I don't doubt they go to the secondary market but that's probably when they're at their last 5% of hundreds of cases.

I have to agree. There is no way blowout is preselling all their allocation of Bowman(or any product) at their initial presale. I would guess it is 10-20%.

People said the same thing about Heritage, I don’t understand, people just chasing hits usually will sell a whole case worth of base for a fraction of the actual cost.

Agreed. I highly doubt it is truly "sold out"

YUP... I wouldn't sell it all.

Not slamming blowout for this practice. It is what it is. Capitalism at it's finest. Why sell it all if the product gets super hot? I'm sure they want to maximize profit and raise prices if the product blows up.

I'm thinking that's why the pre sell window was so short with topps chrome/HHN. Blowout released a reasonable pre-sell price for a short time, it "sold out" quickly, and based on that they jacked up prices. If otahni/other rookies stay hot, prices will continue to climb.
