But it's not like Panini hasn't employed the same tactics, it's just that they've done it across so many of their other chromium lines (t-mall, monopoly, hps, hoops chrome...I could go on and on). Ultimately, Topps will take over and people will go back to loving them. The same reservations were had about Panini when Topps lost its license in the late 2000's. When your only other alternative is Leaf, then its a foregone conclusion. 95% of clecters don't care much about Golds or grail hoarding. And that's these company's primary demographic, because their money is what keeps the lights on. Besides, at the end of the day the actual players themselves are the primary determinant of demand. As is easily witnessed by the stark contrast in demand in wax and release pricing between this and last years' draft. Slemby could have been a Leaf exclusive and had Hong Kong CEO's scrambling for their Amex pins. Good players will always bring the moolah, regardless of who has the exclusive license.

Sapphire definitely displaced regular branded Chrome as the release to have. Gilded could have been the successor but they used different images and added wonky parallels.
Soccer, F1 and Baseball…Sapphire is king for all of them.
