I wish Topps could make Heritage for Basketball. That would be so cool.

FWIW, the last case I opened was 2018, and it had 2 Real Ones plus a Pilots auto. Although the Pilot guy's major league career was about 10 games long, so maybe that should only count as the .4.

Been considering going in on a case of Heritage … those who know better than me: Is it worth it at the current price point? Is that price more likely to rise or fall going forward?

I would say fall for sure but who knows anymore. I feel like the big sellers really have perfected creating a false sense of scarcity and manipulating prices of the more popular releases with ease.

I love Blowout and I'm honestly glad they are running an exceptional business, they really do a great job. It's tough for guys who don't break on a large scale and profit off of group breaking. The presale price of Heritage this year is absurd to me, as was the price of Series 1. At the same time, I had every opportunity to lock in at lower prices. How series 1 went from $550 to $850 in one day, I will never understand. Maybe the demand is really there these days.

They also did Topps Archives Basketball in 1992 I think.

It featured cards of players from the 1980's in the baseball design of the corresponding year.

How many master sets could I expect to build from 3 cases? First time doing cases of Heritage.

Unless Topps changed something, You should 100% get 1 full master set. You’re likely to get another give or take a couple cards and a third that’s very close to full. Unless you get unlucky and get the same inserts in all your cases

To be more specific, if it’s like the past couple years:

You get 96/100 SP’s per case. Sometimes there are a few doubles so you might only get 92 different cards and a few duplicates.

You’ll get all of most of the insert sets. The last few years the duo cards have been sets of 15 and you only get 12/case. The other insert sets you’ll probably only miss a card or two.

Ok thanks, so will likely just need to do a few trades to get to 3 Master sets. Looking forward to this release! Such a cool design. Curious how the black cards will affect grading/pop reports.

Has anyone seen images yet of the 2020 Heritage hobby box? I know the blasters are up but always get excited seeing the images of the hobby box.

Thanks for the input. Perhaps I'll just stick to a hobby box or two - I've been out of the hobby for a couple years, so I too was a little surprised at the price point.

I love Heritage and it's one of my favorite products to break over the past few years... but just like Series 1 and Bowman, I'm priced out of cases now. Price points are just too high for me. I guess I need to find a new hobby

I smell what you're stepping in. I feel like the distros just dribble out a little at a time in order to keep prices high and the perception of rarity in preponderance.

The more they can sell higher than the original buy-in orice means the more they can scurry away for future years for free. Why sell something at $70/box when they can wait a year or two and sell it for $200+/box?

Distros are the worst.

Topps did Heritage for Basketball, Hockey, and Football back between 2000-2003, when it had licenses for all four sports.

That's impossible now because they only hold the license for MLB.

What I would like to see is an Archives/Heritage-type product utilizing Topps' old basketball/hockey/football designs.

They've used them occasionally for inserts in Archives, like the 71-72 Hockey inserts set, the 71-72 basketball insert set, and the 1965 Football insert set.

They do it somewhat with the TBT sets

And that's precisely what has become ridiculous about wax prices and the hobby. You can spend roughly $1000 on a case and still not get a complete 1-500 Heritage set.

I think BO capitalizes on people that have money to burn and have FOMO. Otherwise people would just go to eBay and buy cases for $150 less. Every release this can be done.

I've bought from reputable sellers and never had an issue. I have heard of the stories though.

I'm bracing for that, myself. Preordered a case back in November for under $900. The seller had good FB, but no history of preselling product. They've since gotten FB for Update presales, but I'm waiting for the runaround. Considered backstopping with another case from a more established wax seller, probably can resell it easily if the original seller comes through, and provided I don't break down and open it. Just getting too hyped for Heritage this year.
