When Topps first released the statement it seemed strange that they referred to the ESP as "shortprint rookie variations". Perhaps this is why.

Hobby Lite may possibly only have mini-diamond parallels of JRod and still be true to their message.

The kicker here is that lite has the same checklist, while the logofractor has a different checklist. While it’s possible that 221-225 mini diamonds are the only ones in there, it seems possible that the 221-225 base ones are in there as well as they are all in the same packs.

I respectfully disagree with your conclusion though. After talking about the fact that the 5 SPs were left out of hobby boxes, Topps said (2nd Paragraph):

“This issue does not pertain to all 2022 Topps Chrome Baseball products. The short print rookie variations were included in the Hobby Lite product available only on Topps.com, and the Sonic and Logofractor Edition products, which will both be available at a later date.”

It doesn’t say anything about different kinds of refractors (ie, the Logofractor Julio, etc.), and by using “The” SP rookie variations, they seemed to be talking only about the ones that were referenced previously in the Press Release, i.e, the base SPs that were left out of hobby boxes.

I now have to wonder if the Lite boxes will only have the B/W Diamond parallels and not the base SPs, which as someone mentioned, may only end up in the silver packs.

What a mess they’ve made. If Julio, Witt, etc. make it big, and in 5 years, someone asks “what is his key Rookie Card,” there’s going to be absolutely no firm answer based on 21BB, SPs in Series 2, and this Topps Chrome SP/parallel fiasco.

The SP situation is very odd.

I think the thing that almost everyone can agree with is that Topps needs to be much better at communication.

Same here. I bought them a couple days ago and received a confirmation email, but nothing since. Im half-expecting a cancellation email, but maybe there are shipping delays connected to the hurricane…

Anyway, I’m in the same boat as you.

It won't be 21BB. It will probably be their 22 Chrome Update. Obviously it won't be the most expensive, but probably the most ubiquitous.
