Oh and my department chair gave me a hug (I've been on leave for a year) and she remarked on how nice I smelled.

Are teacher strikes illegal in your state like they are in Massachusetts?

One city, where a HUGE% of teachers make 90K plus went on strike because their demands were not met.

They say they are doing it "for the children".
How can they explain to these same children doing something illegal?

Your avatar sums it up quite nicely.

How did they make striking illegal?

Did they make teachers an essential service like police and fire?

In Massachusetts, teacher strikes are illegal. The Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court has ruled that even using the word “strike” constitutes “inducing, encouraging or condoning a work stoppage by public employees.” Union leaders who do so risk fines—personally and as elected leaders—and even jail time1.

The rationale behind this law is that teachers are public employees and their strikes can cause significant disruption to the education system, which can negatively impact students and their families. The law aims to ensure that teachers and school districts resolve their disputes through negotiation and mediation, rather than resorting to strikes2.

I hope this helps!

So what are they supposed to do? I first off do not believe that there is a large group of teachers making 90k. Secondly, if they feel like are not getting what they should, why shouldn't they do what they feel like they should?

How about look for a higher paying job at another school district which is what most employees do when they feel they aren't being paid enough.

Here's a chart of Massachusetts's teacher salaries from 2021-2021. There are a lot of over 90K average salaries.

Sadly you are wrong.
When a private sector union strikes is cost the company money encouraging them to get back to work.

Public sector strikes hurt the people who pay them with their tax money.

This is wrong on so many levels.

Fair enough. I guess I will move to Massachusetts and teach, because I am topped out in Kansas and am not much about 65. I wonder how those numbers are calculated. I just still have a hard time believing that the average is almost at 6 figures.

My question for you is those tax payers that you are simping for: who holds them accountable for the terrible behavior and lack of basic knowledge coming into school? No one wants to do anything about the parents, so put it on the teachers. Great idea.

This is an affluent community. The union has no worries about the 175K in fines already received because parents communities and the like. The fine will be 345K at the end of today. and again they are not worried.

In Boston alone there are over 2000 teachers making over $100k.

They also claim the are underpaid.

The teachers I really have no issue with, It's the unions and the people who run them.

Again how as a teacher to you do something illegal and then try to discipline a child who breaks a school rule.

Also in Kansas, what is the pension system like?

In Massachusetts you pension is based on the average of your 3 highest years average. So the Elementary school teacher making $153K today who is probably close to retirement will receive $120K a year for the rest of their life.

Teaching is a sh!tshow right now. I have all respect for teachers. Just don't live like "Do as I say, not as I do"

We had 3 8th graders call in an active shooter at a rival school. Police did an excellent job responding, clearing 3 schools, and determining the call was a hoax. The juveniles were arrested within a couple of hours.

I read the last two pages and damn most of you seem to not like teaching. At least it comes off that way although maybe you just come here to vent and you do like it overall?

Can everyone who is a teacher say one nice thing about your job (and nothing to do with a co-worker maybe hitting on you lol)?

Teachers, in a general sense, are burned out by the parents who think they know better, by the ever mounting paperwork, and current day politics affecting education. Best thing about teaching is when the kid who struggles finally "gets it"

That's nice.

Teachers I know say the biggest issue is parents that don’t care and are not involved with their kids education, not that parents are trying to be too involved.

I'm glad to hear that.

How long have you done it and what grade(s) do you teach?
