Default PITCHERS: Official Thread of the Hobby’s Outcast Position

That’s a fantastic haul to come home to mr Moore
Good for Sixto and Miami- I like that the shot covers his midsection

Looks like Max Meyer will get a chance to prove himself earlier than expected. I hope he’s ready.

1. Exciting development.

2. He’s probably not ready, but I wouldn’t be surprised if he found his groove after a month or two.

3. Either way, his innings will be very limited this year.

I’m liking Chase Silseth. Two solo bombs given up to the Dodgers A lineup but also 10k in 5 innings. Finished his spring with an Era in the low 2’s.
I love that he he has a pretty limited late season selection of RC cards.

At the tail end of my last fantasy draft. Now you’re making me think I should scoop him up…

I’m so excited to see the Joe Boyle experience for the A’s. After starting off the spring so hot his (in)ability to throw strikes seemingly has come back to earth.

Other than the unlikely accumulation of W’s on that squad he should be solid at the end of the draft. I’m expecting an era about 4 or a shade under, few walks(solid whip) and a K/inning

Posted this is another thread but I’m expecting a big season. Main issue will be doubt he ever goes past 5-6 innings.

There was also a nice 7 batter/ 7 K streak last start

He’s interesting for sure. I’ve been close on a few colored BC autos but haven’t landed one yet. If he had RCs all winter I’d be balls deep already I’m sure. Older and less electric on their staff I’m also curious to see what JP Sears does. And even Freddy Tarnok when he returns.
Hope springs eternal in March..

The fantasy league I was drafting in is primarily made up of Angels fans—they’re SoCal buddies from my Cal Poly days. And none of them drafted Silseth, Detmers, or Canning.

I was surprised. But at the same time, it’s been a long time since that fan base has seen a homegrown pitcher pan out. (I’d say Ohtani doesn’t count.)

Who did you draft, and who did you like late in the draft? How many teams?

Four late round picks I like a lot, and where they were drafted in mine from Monday (only one I got was McKenzie):
  • 175 Hunter Brown
  • 178 Nick Pivetta
  • 200 Cristopher Sánchez
  • 239 Triston McKenzie
Starting pitching is a disaster this year. So many ~top 50 arms injured. So many old guys now falling down the draft board (Darvish, Rodon, Eovaldi, Morton). I took Strider at #2 overall in a Yahoo $ league.

A 10-team league, I went offense-heavy.

But I’m happy with my top 5 SP’s: Snell, Bieber, Merrill Kelly, Bassitt, and Eflin. It’s largely dependent upon the Bieber revival being real, and Snell not suffering from the prolonged offseason.

I rounded out with $1 flyers on Flaherty, Kyle Harrison and Max Meyer. I could’ve gotten killer deals on my favorites—Eury, McKenzie, and Cristian Javier—but I was a poor man at that point and had all three of them snagged by those who had pinched their pennies.

One of these years I’ll re-enter the world of $ fantasy bb. I’m still burthurt from them making online daily fantasy illegal in Nevada (of all places!)a few years back. I had worked my way up to $500-700/day buy ins with with a winning bankroll when they pulled the plug.
Fantasy wise- id be targeting Biebs, Javier, Brown and TMac as nicely valued bounce back candidates for sure at their current ADPs. Rodon is a highly volatile wild card.
Beyond Strider the rest of the “top” veteran SPs all seem risky to me (except maybe Wheeler I guess) but the middle and bottom of the field seems littered with great values I think.
If I were participating I think I’d probably load up on top hitters and take my chances with “my guys” on the mound this year.

My league just started its 15th season. While I’m starting to hate fantasy football and see a retirement from it in the near future for me, fantasy baseball enhances my enjoyment of the season. I love it.

I couldn’t be more excited for opening day. Tentatively planning on not feeling well and splitting from the office around noon- might post up with bevies and my laptop in a booth at a slummy tavern with mlb ticket for afternoon games

I was told in another thread that Tarik Skubal is better than Clayton Kershaw, I'd like to hear your thoughts? I'm on the Kershaw side.

In 2024? Id agree.
For a career? The young man has a looooong way to go to climb that hill.
Kershaw is an absolute legend.

I wasn't allowed to bring up his Cy Youngs because he threw 3 mph faster in a league that threw 2mph slower! He is a bum according to others. Another line was that if you don't pitch fast, you suck!

I’m sorry that you’re still burthurt.

This is a definitely a down year—or, more optimistically, a transition year—at the top. Wheeler is a good pitcher, but the praise for him has been a little too effusive. Probably a product of the vacuum created by the declines and/or injuries to Scherzer, Kershaw, Verlander, deGrom, and Cole.

I’m hoping this is the year that some of these youngins that we’re wasting money on finally start emerging as aces.

You can bring up whatever you like here. This thread isn’t much for debating and arguing, it’s for sharing cool cards of pitchers and having fun. If you have some nice Kershaw cards, I’d love to see them.

As far as 2024, Skubal will probably have a better season, but that takes nothing away from Kershaw’s greatness and his locked-in HOF spot.
