Absolutely incredible. Nicely done. Sadly makes my collection of 100 moments seem puny by comparison!

I cannot believe the few people on here that spend hours and hours of their time trashing this, instead of just moving on if it's not for them.

I have to imagine most have/had good intentions at first, but they just keep going and going and going. I'm pretty sure everyone who's put any money in has their big boy pants on and I'm also positive they can read/know there is risk.

I stated on the first page that I didn't get it(I wish I would have!) and maybe 20 pages in tried arguing with grade about him pumping. Which, at the time, it felt like he was doing. Then I realized how much money I toss away doing various things in the hobby and went ahead and tried it with a very small "investment". I'm the smallest of small fish but it's been fun and I've made a few bucks.

I am basically the same as you. I scoffed at the idea initially, rolled my eyes at the multiple posts of the "pack breaks" and the returns being generated, but after a couple of weeks decided what the hell I'll sign up and see what happens. I think the certain people that keep posting negatively are people that just can never admit they are ever wrong in any aspect of life, so they're going to stubbornly trash this regardless of how big it gets.

I'm cool with it if people can admit it's just a game of hot potato to try and make a few bucks rather than acting like anyone gives a #@#@#@#@ about owning (but not actually owning) a LaMelo Ball gif bc it's a cool thing to own (but not own).

Of all the people to throw shade at this idea, card collectors were the last I would expect.

I feel like it's the opposite.

If there's a group who would be worried about pumpers and flippers being the majority of a hobby, it would be card collectors.

True, didn't exactly mean that I am surprised they don't like it. I meant more surprised that they are the ones questioning the feasibility of it.

The best example for where value can be found with this is the Vince Carter moment. I do not own one but really wanted it, went up too fast for me to get it at a price I was willing to pay (was $800 yesterday and now at almost $2000).

The moment is Vince Carter's last points in the NBA before retiring. It's a really cool moment and only 3,336 of these exist. This moment will never be made again. If you are a big Vince Carter fan this is something I could see someone paying up for, similar to paying up for a special Vince Carter card.

Moment can be found here:
https://www.nbatopshot.com/listings/...2-aae1a47b7bec

Can anyone watch that video online? Sure, but only 3,336 can say they own this moment.

Gotcha.

I don't think they are questioning that it's artificial though. There are other things that are being questioned like payouts, bots, etc.

I think that's the meat of this product. This moment, even with 5000 copies, at 4 figures makes sense.

That being said, why can't they release that moment in a future release? If they have access to the videos, they can release a set with the last moments of players career (I can't even imagine where the Kobe will land).

Once significant moments gets produced, does everyone really think current prices for meaningless layups and assists will hold value?

Figured i’ll give real discourse one last shot before resorting back to nonsense memery.

Yeah I am not sure about that. I was under the impression that they wouldn't recreate moments but at least this is series 1 so it will always hold significantly more value. Think it would be similar to having a reprint in sports cards.

DGAR layup got snapped up for $6 in my sleep before I realized I was giving away unobtanium for the price of a homies figurine.

Correct, just like with sports cards. Only the stars will hold value. The only benefit is that everything has low print run right now so all you need is 10k collectors of a player and that players moments will still hold value. If this grows to 1 million+ users don't think it's crazy for some second level players to hold value. Rookie badges are coming soon so if it was a rookie moment it will get a badge as well as an additional badge if the moment was created in the year of his debut and if the moment is from his actual first ever game.

HODLing Windler hookshots with unwavering diamond hands.

It just feels like they really cracked down on marketplace bots. I’ll fire sale a few moments well below lowest ask if I’m trying to fund something bigger and they sit there for a bit now. They were insta-scooped even a few days ago.

It seems like most of the potential value is baked into the expectation of exponential user growth.

How many separate/15000+ Lebron gifs will hold big value before the demand is no longer there at 40x the price of a pack?

Sure if topshot keeps future releases below demand, gifs should continue to sell well in the marketplace, but there are going to be an explosion of unrelated NFTs soon enough. Are we really expecting continual exponential growth long term?

I feel like the bots are still there. I click on a $2-$3 moment and as soon as it loads it's already sold out, time and time again.
