Acuna has way less rookies and his image on holiday is bat down which is the most sought after image in the entire hobby and his metallic snowflakes go for 40 bucks. Also I'd say 1 in 5 listings for Metallic are just the seller trying to pass off a regular holiday. Most of the time you can tell in the picture but it's very subtle.
There are many that are not metallic snowflakes indeed. Topps even forgot to change the code on the back so that does no good. In hand it is easy to see the difference and HD pictures. ACUNA PSA 10’s of the card got real hot at one time. People moved away from them for other options. The Ohtani may or may not be different down the line because of the batting stance. Only time will tell of course. He is definite a “stop what you are doing at bat!”

The new era was a SP with no more than a few thousand printed. Apples and oranges. It was also handed out at stadiums so the condition is tough (no one brought penny sleeves/toploaders).

Thoughts on 18' Topps Chrome #150 Ohtani refractors psa 10(Sepia and Pink) as investment pieces long term? The picture is of him pitching with the white jersey. Are batting rookies more valuable then the pitching ones? I'm new to the Ohtani market and just want some help from the Ohtani collectors and fans.

Buy serial numbers rookies and known SPs. Pinks and sepia are printed in the five digits.

I think the 150 is a pretty safe investment, despite the dreaded pitching image.

I think you're better off with a normal refractor than a Sepia. I would stay away from the Update batting one. Here's my opinion of the best stuff you can buy right now, kind of silly for me to say since I'm chasing some of the same stuff on this list that doesn't come to market often but:

Sapphire
Bowman Chrome Autos
Serial #'d S2 or Update US1 parallels
PSA 10 Gold S2 or Update US1(pitching)
Serial #'d US1 Update Refractors

Right behind that list I'd put any other rookie auto that's not a sticker or Panini

Didn't know that, thought it was a really cool looking card too. Before he blew up I was going to buy one (or some), but just waited too long and then now it is priced pretty high. I think at one point I saw someone had like 8 or 9 for sale at $50 for the lot....

I actually wish Topps did more of this, maybe through out MLB and MiLB games throughout the year. There are 120 minor league teams and 30 MLB so a 150 card "set". They could easily tie the MiLB teams to former players or rookies within that organization that are now in the MLB, but had started or played for them.

I would stick with Bowman Chrome #1 (fall release) over Topps Chrome.

Fewer out there and will be the better card long term (as it is now).

To reiterate what was stated above, I would say the best buys are:

1) Any TC or BC Numbered or Variation (including holding bag, dugout, batting stance TC complete set)
2) Any on card auto RC from a chrome set or heritage
3) Any heritage variation or chrome (including purple IMO)
4) Any S2 or Update parallel for ANY card, doesn't matter if it's #700, #US1, #US285
5) Any S2 or Update variation of any card (US1 comes to mind both batting vertical, pitching horizontal, warmup shirt vertical)

For lower end, I still like:

1) Finest - you're getting a shiny RC logo card for $10. After all this dude has done it's still a $10 card, and it's not printed to hell like most other sets. Maybe $15 with shipping.
2) Topps Chrome Refractor or Xfractor - this is considered lower end where BC refractor(s) are higher end given they are numbered
3) Update US285 - batting stance and hella cheap
4) Update Chrome HMT32 - batting stance and hella cheap
5) Any Big League parallel
6) Any Archives
7) Stadium Club parallel
8) there's plenty of pajama options if that's your thing

Edit: Throw in 2017 Bowman Chrome Mega somewhere as those are a must have. Unsure how many are gradable still but I'll soon find out

Are these cards "buys" for you at current market prices or only if you can find one at like 80% of current ebay prices?

For the bottom list, definitely. The top, picking and choosing. If it looks clean and raw, definitely.

Since June 2nd I've picked up:
-6 Bowman Chrome #1 batting
-1 Bowman Chrome #1 Dugout
-1 Topps Chrome Dugout Variation Orange Refractor
-2 Topps Chrome Complete Sets
-2 Topps Chrome Xfractors
-1 Topps Chrome Negative Refractor
-1 Update #285 Indepenence Day
-1 Update #1 Batting SSP
-1 Update #1 Warm up SP
-1 Platinum Blue Refractor
-1 Update 285 Rainbow Foil (2 throw in bass)
-3 Finest Refractors
-1 Finest Green Refractor
-2 Finest bass to go along with the 15 or so I picked up during ST
-1 2017 Mega Box
-2 TC HMT32 Refractors

That's in addition to the stuff I bought during ST including the BC Orange Ref Auto, Finest Gold Ref Auto. I am getting outbid on several things and several things i mentioned above I haven't even targeted yet, but the prices are pretty low. Again, not too late for everyone to buy some high end or low end Ohtani RCs

In general I like to buy a lot of low end base at below market prices when deals are available. Bought a few mid end (at least for me) recently. The prices have shot up today! Trying to convince myself to buy more mid end. For some reason I like to buy low end odd ball cards with low print runs like topps now, topps on demand, topps throwback Thursday etc.

I took a look at eBay when I saw this and there were maybe 5 total raw available and 1 was part of a set and another was part of a huge lot of cards. PSA 9s at $270 and 10s at $700. I got two of the other three raws for $85 and $80. Wish the third guy countered but he sold soon after so I'm sure he got his price.

None of the raws looked 10-worthy. Those top two dark corners on the full-bleed photo are just Frosty Tip City.

Reporting some fresh figures -

TCU HMT1 Xfractor /99 PSA 10 - $2,500 (another sold $2,400 same day)
TC 150 Purple /299 PSA 10 - $1,600

The east coast effect is very real. Astounding.

These were $12 cards back in the "nobody cares" days. I think I sold a PSA 10 for $430 and then the dude relisted it and sold for nearly double. I literally lol'd. Have a couple left.

congrats! PSA grades have been so hit or miss lately. You get a good grader or you don't - glad this one fell your way

Thank you so much! These are for my personal collection and make no financial sense whatsoever to pay for Super Express. I am irrational, but I love me some Shohei!

The PSA 10 premiums being paid in the Ohtani market are blowing away everyone else
