How ironic that it's during the year that the league is trying to make players put forth more effort during All-Star weekend. Players today...

Did the Magic give Mac McClung five minutes of game action this season so he could qualify for the Dunk Contest?
Are you required to appear in a game to qualify for the contest? |

It wasn’t good, they were talking about him like he was the best dunker in history and he was average last night.

If they’re going to put out dudes like McClung, they may as well make the whole contest for non NBA professional dunkers. They would care way more, do cooler dunks, and you don’t have to watch dudes like Andre Jackson waste time.
I watched a little bit but mostly didn’t care. The weekend is meaningless now and I’d rather watch reruns of games from this season

It’s pathetic that a non-NBA player won the NBA dunk contest three years in a row. No wonder why NBA ratings are going down. These kids make it all the way to the NBA and they don’t even want to participate in these all-star festivities.

Seems a tad aggressive. Does anyone really care?

Do we really care at this point? What dunk hasn’t already been done? The entire thing is kind of stupid

I will start watching when they throw in Nesmith, who had 2 of the top 10 dunks of the 23-24 season (remember that thread I started during the summer doldrums). He may not have Obi's between the legs technique (another non-inclusion but did he at least get rookie AS flowers?)
Nesmith's rock the rim (RTM) is unparalleled, among hoarded players. I give him a solid career RTRiM 9.5, assuming the ankles have recovered. Just as he has surpassed Zion in player and coach polls, I assume he will eventually overtake Ant. Simply by virtue of not having been that guy who pioneered the game-saving STRiM (skull to rim) defense, after spraining both ankles in separate plays earlier in a throwaway game at Gainbridge. (When Nesmith sprained two ankles against the Pelicans, he wisely came out mid-game and took a 3 month hiatus. Or as Mathurin terms it, bench-learning).

In his defense...at least..technically..McClung was part of All Star festivities this week, since he was on the G League rising stars team.. But I will agree with the majority, the whole ordeal has been meh for years now The fact they keep changing the Skills challenge...or thought that a "mini tournament" for the actual All Star game would be better...is just..bad |

Nobody cares anymore. Every NBA event has become something you watch on TikTok, not television. The regular season is boring. The playoffs are boring. And the All-Star game has surpassed the Pro Bowl in biggest joke of an exhibition.

Well if no one cares, no one cares. I am sure there are a lot of great dunkers around the league who have written the All Star experience off as elitist and pre-programmed.
I will say though it was sweet seeing Pack bemoan lack of Lamello and Grizz representatives during his All Star chase break, after years of him assiduously avoiding commending any hits outside of Haliburton, Mello, Ant, Maxey, and Bane in the '20-21 class I follow. I mean, I understand higher and lower valuations, but to equate Nesmith with Theo Maledon is laughs. Pack did keep on mentioning marginal inclusion Siakam as the one player who he will never hit, even after accruing multiple LeBrons, Lukas, and Tatums. Turned out Sengun was the one who couldn't pair up. Obsessive love sounds really unhealthy. I don't recommend that for anyone. If anything, let someone you love come to you. If they don't, they not the one. Collecting cards is my happy space that exists outside of whatever stress is going on today or tomorrow.

Of the three major sports in the USA, the NBA and NFL have become too worried about their high-salaried players getting hurt during a meaningless all-star game, so we now have what we have. Only MLB has been largely immune from that, although it's probably just a matter of time before their players don't risk it, either.

If someone tries telling you no one cares about your paragraphs, just hold your head high as a full-time paid writer in an age of AI.
If you are making your money off crypto clicks, or as a security guard, also hold your head high BTW. And if the collecting community ever wants to take my writing and put it together for publication with a charitable side, I am ok that, as long as it's split 15/85 (my side). Standard agent's fee. Could fund a few retirements though. ![]() Anyway, back to watching how high this /5 Andrew "Defensive Player of January" Nembhard '22-23 NT Logoman RC will go. Up to an astounding $1,180 with 28 bids and 40 minutes to go. Who says the hobby is dead? A few superfans been waiting for this one. Not even jersey number, graded, game-used, or 1/1, sheesh. Please postmark this when it's worth $11,000 in 5 years and everyone bemoans there is no money to be made in the hobby.

I am having fun. You are in like a narrow negativity box. You should try some of what ninja tried a couple years ago, when he gave up on finding a solid floor for Zion and started enjoying collecting as self expression.
But who are you anyway? I wasn't on friendly terms with asubiji until recently and boxbuster is still ragging. I think it's a really good chance for Mavs fans to separate the wheat from the chafe. Personally look forward to seeing what Kyrie can orchestrate next season. Wish Hardaway and Porzingis were still on the squad.

This all ties to increased understanding of the TC (total court) approach employed by today's most successful teams. I understand this will only translate to hobby love the first time an Andre Drummond rookie cracks $10k. Oh and if you are one acronym away from insanity, I get it. Been there. But RTiM. That just sounds right. (v. he RTiMed that ball in the basket)

Nomizzle you a real uno. Never change. I implore you.

This game didn't do much to change the Muricans are lazy narrative. Considering we outsourced all the hard labor for the final 16 points of the game.
I don't think there's any way of fixing this viewership disaster. Just ditch the NBA players altogether (with exception of the 3point contest considering that's the only one where there seems to be no injury concerns with stars) and open it up to social media and global specialists. There's far more action and effort on Rico Hines private runs.

There is an inherent excitement in dunks. Maybe they should introduce dunks by top offensive players against top defenders as part of the All Star equation. Add a win in the column of the team top 3 finishers' represent. If that seems too extreme, hand out a couple percentage of top draft pick action.
Add defenders to the 3 point as well. While Nesmith could capably represent on the offensive end that is not his speciality and he could ball out on defense. It would be like the All Pro, where even Penei Sewell, Kerby Joseph and Jack Fox get their flowers. Forget the inevitable train wrecks. Rest of the season doesn't matter and anyway, the true pros have the art of falling down pat. Also open the competition to amateurs, top 3 guaranteed a try-out in summer league. With the right motivation, the All Star games will look like the Olympics.
