Also a question for you 90's aficionados: I'm seeing two different versions of 1998 Gold Label Home Run Race red labels. Any info on why one would be stamped with a serial number and not the other? They are both denoted as red label under the card number (HR3) on the back and both have the red "Topps Gold Label" stamped in red on the front. The unnumbered Home Run Race Red Labels were mistakenly pack inserted into all Gold Label packs - this issue applied to other players in the set, not just Griffey. This is confirmed in a Reader's Write column in a '98 or '99 Beckett (I cannot remember the specific issue) as a collector wrote to Beckett asking about an unnumbered HRR Red Label he pulled. The response from the Topps representative was that it was a packaging error and he recommended all owners of an unnumbered HRR Red Label to mail it back to Topps (so it could be destroyed) and they would mail something back in compensation and as a thank you.

The numbered HRR /61s were still packed out as well.

How about we go with the rarest of the rare today. 1998 Flair Showcase Perfect 10 of Nomar. I cannot imagine there being anywhere close to as rare of an insert set as these. 10 card set with only 10 of each player.

Wow, great memory! I'll have to dig up that article sometime, I wonder what they exchanged them out for and how many of the non-serialed ones made it into packs.
