Random question for the group - if you had to pick one, would you rather own a 2009 BC Blue Refractor /150 or a 2011 Topps Update Hope Diamond /60? Which do you think will be more "iconic" years from now?

If it was me, I would go for the rarer one, which is the Hope Diamond. They rarely come up for sale compared to 2009 Bowman Blue Refractor. There are currently five blue refractors for sale at ebay, some of those listings have been active for months. Among the 2009 BC, I would go for the Gold Refractor/50. This is just my personal preference.

Since a blue gem is triple the price or more, i'd go with the Blue based upon value, auto, and it just being a beautiful friggin card of a Trout that will be the premier card in the hobby for years to come. Hope is very boring tbh.

Boring?! ...I think the hope diamond parallels are one of the nicest ones out there! (Right next to 2014 Red Hot Foil and 2013 Emerald)

I think its a matter of personal preference and everyone's taste is different. There is no right or wrong answer here. The OP also asked "Which do you think will be more "iconic" years from now"? I think 2009 BC will always be more iconic than the Hope Diamond. The only reason I said I would choose Hope is because of the rarity. If the choice was between 2009 BC Gold Refractor/50 vs 2011 Hope Diamond/60, I would go with 2009 BC Gold Refractor. Again, this is just my preference.

Interesting to see how many prefer the Hope, particularly since its the more affordable option, all things being equal (ie condition), no?

As PCP noted, the Hope has a smaller print run and the scarcity factor (I rarely see these being offered for sale relative to the 2009 BC blue), but the lack of an on-card auto makes the decision more difficult IMO

Are you buying one of them as a long term investment? If yes, both should appreciate imo as long as the baseball card prices don't decline in the future. No one can predict where the prices would be in the future. I think 2009 BC Blue Refractor will have a more wider market (more buyers) compared to Hope because it is more iconic/desirable with an on card autograph. This is just my personal opinion. As I said earlier, I think its a matter of personal preference and everyone's taste is different. There is no right or wrong answer here.

I am new to sports card collecting, so please do not make any financial decisions based on what I or others say at public forums. At the end of the day it is your money and you have to do your own due diligence. I wish you good luck.

To explain my answers, it is solely based on prettiness of design/color and nothing else...as is everything in my collection. I never plan to sell, so value/cost has little to do with anything.

When I saw this card, I immediately fell in love with the overall look. The photo looks like Mike Trout is in full concentration and the blue refractor color just pops.
