As disappointed as I was with not moving E-Rod, I'm reluctant just yet to give up on the new GM - until we shed Miggy's contract, not much of true, lasting significance can really happen. Once that happens, he's on a short leash.

Their payroll is ranked 21st, which is also $30-40 million less than Minny and Chicago WITH Miggy. That contract is not some albatross that prevents them from spending.

They were consistently top-five in payroll from 2008-2017.

The bigger issue is the bozo Illitch owns the team now...but that doesn't mean Harris hasn't been uninspiring himself so far.

Problem with shedding Miggy’s contract is that he had the 3rd best batting average in the lineup today. How many .230 batters who never seem to come through in RISP opportunities are the Tigers going to add in the lineup ?

There has to be someone better than Joey Wentz in the minors.

I got brigaded on r/motorcitykitties early in the season for referring to the Tigers as a poverty franchise but it does seem like we are trending in that direction.

Doesn't sound much different than here.

Holy canolas! This might be the trade of the year if Lorenzen keeps pitching well and the Phillies make a deep run into the playoffs!

All for a guy who, given the Tigers' track record with "prospects", will probably hit .143 in 21 career ABs with the big club.

...or be traded to another club and then of course go off with them.

Jeimer Candelario currently has a higher OPS than … Riley Greene. So does Isaac Paredes.

Both Castros are hitting about the same as last year - acceptable, but not, foundational.

Even 2022 Candy was better than 2023 Maton. Good times.

Tork has six HRs in his last seven games. Hopefully, he closes the season out strong.

Riley Greene plays CF, Other two are 3B, not apples to apples at all. Greene has a 139 wRC+ and over 162 projects 5 WAR, he's 22...

Yankees fans seem to want to run Gleyber Torres out of Detroit. I hope Harris goes after him in a trade this offseason. Would be a quality right handed bat for the lineup.

Like Bellinger, I think a change of scenery could do wonders for him.

Maybe, but I see a lot of Yankees games where I live and I'm not sure about Gleyber.

Cutting Haase loose seems a little cold to me, just to try out another team’s washed up backup Catcher instead. With Dingler on the way in a few weeks anyway.

Haase was/is done, sure, but “churn” for churn’s sake, it’s a biz-ness, etc. all does make me wonder what happens if the Shortstop slips below Mendoza too.

Was just noting some post-Tigers results this year. We do still need a 3B though.

For a long time, there were hardly any ex-Tigers playing elsewhere, just Jose Iglesias wandering around the Leagues.

Vierling is quite a bit better get than keeping Soto though. Harris looks to have got one over on ole Dave D.

The injuries to Greene may have thrown him off but has anybody seen what N. Castellanos has done for the year. He has been solid. He would be the Tigers best player and I’m not sure what he is being paid this season ?

So you'd prefer Zach McKinstry and Andy Ibanez to Torres?

I'm not saying Gleyber is a world beater, but he'd be second on this team in HRs, second in doubles and third in OPS. He's a clear upgrade over what they have.

Haase was the worst player in baseball this year. If Baez didn't have his contract, he'd be gone too.

Agreed, It is the kind of player the Tigers should target. The "top" free agents don't typically come to Detroit. We would need to be one step away from a World Series for that to happen. Target guys who are still young and have a little doubt/bad mark against them. My only concern is if Baez opts in and you get somebody like Gleyber, will they both feed off each other and both become like what Baez is this year.
