I think it's safe to say, the Bucs chances of making the playoffs are pretty much done. Bucs just ran out of time, and it was apparent the offense was missing V-Jax. Bad defense, especially the secondary and special teams coupled with dumb penalties were just too much for the team to overcome.
All in all, Jameis did not have a terrible game. Neither did Mike Evans. Winston set a Bucs rookie record with his 20th TD pass, and his 363 passing yards is his season-best. Mike Evans had 9 receptions for 157 yards, but no TD's. It's just unfortunate this team has to play from behind most of the time. The next game is December 27th in Chicago.

I must say, this year has reminded me a lot of 2012. That year they started off 6-4, and our young QB, Josh Freeman, was playing great football throwing for 21 TDs with only 7 INTs. Then they lost 5 in a row before a meaningless week 17 win and Josh Freeman fell off the face of the earth. Luckily I have a lot more faith in Winston than I did in Freeman but this is not the way I thought this season would end.
Yesterday was another tough loss to a team we really shouldn't have had a problem beating. They finally had a game without a bunch of penalties but the ones they had were huge. That hands to the face by Verner was a game changer. Instead of being set up at the 20 the drive continued and the Bears ended up scoring. The 3 turnovers were brutal too. They led to 10 Bears points and the Winston INT took an easy FG attempt off the books. I don't know what is going on with Martin and his fumbling. He only had 1 lost fumble coming into this year and he has 5 so far this season. While this team is obviously heading in the right direction, there is still a lot of positions that need help. Luckily a probable top 10 pick will allow us to fill some of those needs. Looking forward to the game in Carolina, mainly because I will be there. Knocking them out of the #1 spot would be a nice way to end the season.

I agree he should since he had a great year, but you don't think he'll test the market?

I think the Bucs will throw enough money at him to make him stay. He had an incredible year. As much as I love Charles Sims, I don't see him supplanting the Duggernaut anytime soon. Could be wrong though. Tampa Bay's been acting funny lately with dismissing Lovie Smith. Maybe the new coach they bring in will have other ideas.

If they name Dirk Koetter head coach the firing Lovie made sense. Have to keep Koetter for Jameis

Would be very surprised if Nick Saban left Alabama to coach in the Pros.

Congratulations to Logan Mankins and Lavonte David (About Time!!) for making the NFL Pro Bowl Roster.
The Buccaneers will now have four players participating in the Pro Bowl with David and Mankins joining running back Doug Martin and defensive tackle Gerald McCoy. GO BUCS!!!

In other news
Southern Miss Head Head Football Coach Todd Monken joins the Buccaneers as their new Offensive Coordinator/WR Coach. Taking over the duties when Dirk Koetter was promoted to head coach. I know very little of Todd Monken. Is this a good move?

Bucs are just full of news lately. Jameis Winston is going to the Pro Bowl. He is taking the spot vacated by Tom Brady. That makes 5 total Bucs to this year's Pro Bowl. Winston becomes the first Bucs quarterback to earn a spot on the roster since 2007, when Jeff Garcia made the team. He is also the first rookie quarterback to ever represent the Bucs in the Pro Bowl.
Congrats!!

I hope this invite to the Pro Bowl is the tipping point to earn Jameis the Offensive ROY Award. I'll take it however it comes, even if he was way down the list of invited QBs. FOr the ROY award, Todd Gurley only managed to put up 2.3 yds ave against the Bucs on 12/17 and that was his 4th highest # of carries of the season (21) but the 4th lowest total yards of the season (not including week 1). The Bucs kept Gurley in check. Gurley's 10 TDs just isn't impressive when compared to other top rookie years at RB; he only had 4 more rushing TDs than Winston.

Bwall's Mock Draft 1.0
Round 1 - Vernon Hargreaves III, CB, Florida Vernon Hargreaves III is a phenomenal Cornerback with a ton of talent, great athleticism and a skill set tailor made to play CB at the professional level. This kid has been on my radar since he came out of high school. He is a ballhawk, as shown by his 10 career interceptions and 27 passes defensed in 3 seasons in the SEC. We have some talent at the CB position but none of our Top 3 from last year are under contract past 2017 and all have had issues. We need to continue to invest and upgrade our Secondary both with starters and depth. My pro comparison for VH3 is Patrick Peterson. Round 2 - Shilique Calhoun, DE, Michigan State Defensive End is another major need for the Buccaneers going forward, we have one guy who deserves to start and a few guys who are decent depth. I believe we need a starter and to upgrade our depth. Calhoun is one of the best natural pass rushers in this draft and would fit very well as a 4-3 DE. In the last 3 seasons Calhoun has contributed 41.5 Tackles for Loss and 26 Sacks and was one of the biggest factors for Michigan State's defensive prowess during that time. Calhoun could start from Day one at RE for Tampa Bay and would put more pressure on opposing QBs than anyone we've had there recently. Round 3 - Karl Joseph, SS, West Virginia Our problems in our Secondary are not only at CB. Chris Conte was an awful FS and the Safety position as a whole has been a problem for just as long as CB has. Joseph had 5 INTs in the first 4 games of 2015 before he tore his ACL. It was a clean tear and he immediately had surgery and should be ready to go Week 1 in 2015. Before 2015 he had always been known as a physical enforcer at safety and extremely effective tackler. Joseph probably would have been a late 1st/early 2nd round pick had it not been for the injury. With this selection the Buccaneers catch a very talented Safety slipping a little bit and snag him up. This would then allow us to move Bradley McDougald to FS, IMO his natural position, and to clean up the areas on the back end of our defense. Round 4 - Roberto Aguayo, K, Florida State The most accurate Kicker in NCAA history, what an accomplishment. He has a very strong leg, not the strongest but capable of making 50+ yarders and touching the ball back often on kickoffs. It is his accuracy that sets him apart the most though, he is deadly. The Buccaneers have had issues on Special Teams and specifically at Kicker. With the new Extra Point rule in place and accurate, reliable Kicker is more important than it has ever been. Tampa Bay could lock down one of the best kickers in the game for the better part of the next 2 decades potentially. Round 5 - Dadi Nicolas, DE, Virginia Tech Continue to improve our defense and defensive line by getting another talented pass rusher. He is undersized at 6'3 235, but he will certainly gain weight at the pro level and has the frame to do such. He is somebody who has the skills to develop into a significant pass rusher in our rotation. Round 6 - Cyrus Jones, CB/PR/KR, Alabama As a CB Cyrus Jones is very good, he has covered top notch WRs at Alabama and played in and won the biggest of games. In the NFL he will provide nice depth for a team. He is also a great Special Teamer. He is a great returner in both the punt and kick return games and will make an immediate impact in the league for a team if given that shot. Tampa Bay needs to improve our return game, specifically punt returns. I believe with his athleticism and tackling ability that he can also cover punts as a gunner and kick returns at the NFL level. Point blank, he is very versatile, smart, very athletic guy and you can not do better than Cyrus Jones at this stage in the draft. Round 6 - Riley Dixon, P, Syracuse One of the best legs punting in the NCAA the last 2 seasons. I have been lucky enough to have the ability to watch this kid punt and he definitely has an NFL leg. Jacob Schum did not get the job done, and Michael Koenen was even worse. Not investing in a Punter who is really NFL capable is doing our defense a disservice and putting them in a position to fail more often than we should be. In Summary: Some people will look at this mock and be upset that there are no offensive selections. Jason Licht and his staff have done a great job rebuilding our offense from the ground up in the last 2 drafts and the results are we have one of the youngest offenses in the league and it is a very talented group. It is time to invest heavily in our defense and also address special teams. Once we do that we will not have to be so weighted one way or the other, Offense v Defense, in future drafts and can let the draft dictate what we do more. We also have over 40 million in cap space going into free agency. Our OL and WR groups if deemed necessary can be supplemented in Free Agency and be a higher priority after this year going forward. Any other needs are primarily depth and be solved through UDFAs or cheap, team friendly veteran deals. This investment in our defense will help the talent that we already have on that side of the ball and give Jameis and the offense a balanced team who can truly compete for a playoff spot and contend going forward.

I finally got around to reading this bwallstreet. Very good article. Well done! The draft should be interesting this year. The Bucs certainly have areas they need to improve. The majority of the players you list could certainly help TB in the long term.
I do think that TB at the moment has a young and potent offense. Jameis Winston is the type of leader that this team needs. They also need to re-sign Doug Martin and continue developing Charles Sims and ASJ. Mike Evans needs to get better catching the ball and V-Jax (if he stays) needs to get healthy. These are all fixable issues. The Bucs need to do everything they can to address the FS/SS and CB position. Their secondary was pretty awful. Of course, their performance last year could be a reflection of how poorly Leslie Frazier and Lovie Smith ran the defense. I imagine that the team under Dirk Koetter will get make D/ST one of their priorities and that will help with the penalties too. I am really excited for this team next year, especially the addition of Mike Smith as DC.
