Oh, ok. So you didn't look at their stats, just a general statement about two fast players who were hyped. That makes sense. A quick stroll through their statcast data shows just how different they are as players.

Give Cruz credit he's really liking to stick to that 37% strike out rate in AB's. Last year 37% and this year 37%.

Bo got the hype from playing MLB/NFL, making moments, and of course Nike ads. Why do you say Elly could be out in 2 years? That can be said about just about any player. If his offense doesn’t keep him around, at least his defense could help. As a Padres fan, Arraez could be the second coming of Tony Gwynn who I feel never got the respect/attention he deserved. Maybe it’s just the San Diego market. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Even Buxton who gets hurt if a blade of grass is cut the wrong way is still in the league. I think Elly will be around for quite a while.
A little more patience at the plate would help but these days most batters are just trying to murder the ball instead of being patient at the plate. |

Elly seems like Billy Hamilton with power. I hope he proves me wrong and has an illustrious career.

Hamilton had a pretty good career. And if he had 30 hr power he would have had a much better career. Elly's per 162 avg so far is 23 HR/ 67 SB and he's still only 22. Even is his peak is a .230 hitter with 25-30 HR and 50-70 SB every year that should keep him in starting lineup somewhere for a long time

Nobody hates Elly, well I’m sure some do but most of the “Elly haters” have never posted anything hateful about him ever. The problem is if you say hey he’s hitting .175 over the last 6 weeks that’s not very good, it’s construed as hate speech.

He's been performing this pump routine for years. Nothing you say will change the way he posts. He's tactical with his post always promoting certain players he invests in as GOATS and anyone who says differently he will claim they are hate mongers.

There were times I questioned if BHam could hit middle school pitching. Elly has bad pitch recognition and often gets out-thinked by pitchers but I do think he will improve. I think he might be better if he stuck to just hitting left. His OPS+ is 88 vs LHP

Exactly! I hope he turns it around and is an absolute superstar for years to come. But uhh…show me something. He had a similar drop last September that everybody just wrote off as a rookie wall. He’s still young but man, it’s been ugly for more than one prolonged stretch now!

Unfortunately I think that's what a lot of people do. They say they're collectors but you can tell they're not by their posts

counterpoint: Not everybody has expendable income to be a collector - for many these days getting the cards they want means selling others and I don't think that should be looked down on.

If you're opening packs or buying into breaks hoping to get cards to sell to buy more cards then you'll probably spend more in the long run then you would just buying singles. If you're end goal is collecting then just buy singles you can afford. If you're trying to flip stuff it's all a gamble so you might make some money and you might lose some.

Baseball card collectors on HI are bigger day traders than actual day traders. Thank God this forum is only like 1% of the hobby.

Yeah. At a bare bones minimum, he'd be a pinch runner type on someone's roster. He still has time to make some adjustments before he can be written off as a career .230 hitter. And if that's what he is, he's got enough pop and speed to be serviceable on a roster.

But with how big the jump from AAA to MLB is now, he might not have had the opportunity to make that adjustment at AAA. Hopefully, he can still make that adjustment.
