The question for me is how did this card get a PSA 9 with that huge print defect across his face?

*NOTE: I have found 10 additional 1976 George Brett Topps #19 cards that have
been altered by Jon Slight and will post them over the next few days.
Two common print flaws with these cards is black ink offset spots on the
front and "snow" or ink picking due to offset in the darker ink areas of the front.
When the 1976 Topps cards were printed, gloss varnish was also applied which contributed to
a lot of the ink offsetting issues during production.
Jon Slight altered the appearances of these flaws by both removing color and/or adding color to minimize these flaws.
With each altered card I post will note in detail what was done to the cards to alter their appearance.

With this card, aside from being trimmed at the bottom, black ink spots were removed or minimized from the arm.
Whatever Slight used to remove these spots also removed the ink on the card that makes up the flesh tones.
The gif that I provided shows the difference in skin color of the PSA 7 and PSA 9.
The skin color change only appears in the area where he worked on minimizing the ink offset.
The altered card is whiter in these areas as you can see.
It looks similar to a glare, but the surface ink is actually gone or greatly reduced.
The halftone ink dots have disappeared.
In the flesh tones of the rest of the card there is no change in color.
If you look at the bottom right white border you can see a "fisheye" caused by debris on the varnish plate during printing.

PSA 7 to PSA 9

PSA Cert #28318655

1976 Topps George Brett #19

Value gain of $3,313.01

PSA Set Registry: None found

This card was purchased by VCP masked buyer ID t***c (John and Kamala Slight) from Ebay seller benni40 as a PSA 7 for $49.99 on November 01, 2017.

Same card was sold by Ebay seller sundiegocollectibles (John and Kamala Slight) as a PSA 9 for $3,363.00 on March 08, 2018.

Yellow circles are print, fiber, stain or chipping identifiers.
Red boxes identify trimmed bottom edge and ink removal.

It would be a good step forward to taking care alteration seriously.
With the 13 new cert numbers that I have discovered there are likely going to be 400-500 or more cards to check out.

Greg Libersher lists around 50 or more PSA graded cards at auction about once every 3 or 4 weeks under his eBay seller ID of goosescards.
Almost always they are recently graded cards and include many from single submissions.
Whether or not he is submitting under his own name or using someone else is an unknown.
When he was selling under the eBay ID of glibersher, Libersher trimmed almost everything he sent to PSA and
they gave a grade number to practically every card.
I have already outed over 50 Libersher altered PSA 10s.

Auburn, thank you for staying up with these card doctors and playing a very active role in protecting the hobby.

With this card color was added to fill in much of the "snow" in the dark background which was caused by ink offset.
Slight was sloppy with the ink and three areas where he messed up are noted inside the red boxes of the enlarged scans.
For reference, the card as a PSA 7 sold twice - first by Slight on 04-07-2022 and then by Probstein123 on 09-19-2023.
The added color appears in both scans.

Wonder if these recent findings will make it into the thread on the CU forums, discussing the same 1976 Brett population.

I have two more to post.
A BVG 8 to a PSA 8.5 and a PSA 6 to a PSA 9.

I haven't attempted to link any other 1976 Brett cards to other card doctors yet.
Takes a lot of time.
