I guess from Topps' standpoint, it makes more sense for them to hold off on including a rookie in Update to have him headine the main S1 release the following year. Since Update cards aren't included in the factory sets, it probably doesn't make as much sense to include a key RC in Update that would not be included in the factory sets.

All 2020 rookies were called up after July 1. In the past the cutoff has typically been in late June. You can tell because the Topps Now cards don't have the RC logo.

It's been my experience that Topps goes out of their way to get guys in. 2021 is the first year I can recall they hold a top notch RC back for S2 (Hayes, Kirilloff). IMO that has more to do with the ridiculous depth of the class because all the guys that would have normally been called up last year in time for S2 and Update didn't get called up early enough. Plus in the case of Kirilloff he still hasn't played a regular season game.

I went back and checked on a few of the key guys (Adell/Bohm) and, yes, you're right. So, does explain a bit more on Update. I just recall a lot of the surprise at the time of the terrible checklist for Update.

Really hoping for an early Wander call-up so we can see him in a '21 release. I don't have the patience to wait another year. LOL

I am surprised anybody was surprised. There is some ambiguity between S2 vs Update, but Update vs next year's S1 there is no ambiguity. When the player gets called up check his Topps Now card. If it has RC logo, Update. If not, next year's S1.

I'm also surprised you needed to check up on me given the season didn't start until August

They were SP which is part of the reason. Also they were hoping he would be worthy to hit within 2 spots in a lineup with Trout. They signed Rendon. Problem solved.

According to the description on Twitter he was opening packs from the 1960s. That was some old, inedible gum.

You scared me for a minute -- I was trying to think through what it would mean for collation and base set estimates if I had to somehow account for one gum-stained card in every pack. There was some crazy math happening in my head.

Damn these are up to $1600 for a hobby case?

Also see 2020 series 1 is $1800 a case. Why did that jump so much?

Because the breakers and flippers are driving up the price.

Same as with every other product...

Once they're done with Series 1, they'll move on to start driving up the price of Heritage....

The question is: how much of the increase is Topps getting? Last year on January 7, I pre-ordered series 1 for 57.95/box from blowout. This year I pre-ordered in December for 109 each I think. If Topps isn't getting a significant portion of that increase, they definitely will be soon.

Topps Series 1 retail pricing is the same in 2021 as it was in 2020 and as far back as 2016. $400/ blaster.

My lcs laughed at the $130 price tag. My guess is that he'll charge in the $80-$90 per box which is still a lot more then usual. I believe i picked up 2020 series 1 for $70 to $75 a box last year. Even if prices drop to $100 online, it's still a bad rip imo.
