Haven’t really listed any $20+ stuff so I’m assuming that the $.30 fee really eats that % down about 10% on a $3 card.
This is basically correct. Shipping/supplies are another factor. At 69¢ plus 11¢ or so for supplies plus the 30¢/40¢ fee that eats up a huge % of a $2-$4 sale, not so much on a $19.99 sale. The issue is, at $20 shipping goes up to $4-$4.50. That's why I go directly from $19.99 to $29.99 on my listings, nothing in between. Then you run into the same issue with shipping and supplies (which also go up a little) eating up over 10% of your revenue. At the end of the day it's going to end up somewhere around 20%, depending on how many huge cards you sell and how much you promote.

Most accountants are likely to tell you that simpler is better, rather than trying to determine a cost per card. Each year, keep track of your purchases and your sales, which gives you a running inventory.

How many of you have a ROI% goal? What are you shooting for?

I was watching a card related channel, can't remember which one, and the guy was talking about his ROI, could have been the Chasing Cardboard guy. He was talking about shooting for a 35-45% ROI on his sales.

Finally got my "show ready" lot live with all of the scans. Excited to see how it goes. https://www.ebay.com/itm/186925685150

That's about what I shoot for.

That's good to know. It seemed reasonable, so I decided to lower the prices on a lot of cards, lo and behold, I sold a lot of cards this past month.

Nice. I can see you’ve already got a lot of views and watchers.

So, I receive a counter offer on a card, I accept the counter offer. Now the card has gone back into my listings with no record of there ever being a counter offer, or that I accepted the counter offer. What gives?

No, and it does not show up in my "awaiting payment" either.

Weird. Ghost in the machine has your item. That's my explanation.

Must be. It's just showing up as an active listing as if the offer never happened and I never accepted it.

I know listings remain active until they pay

I've run into a few of these lately. I accept the offer and the item stays active until they pay. It's hiding in the manage offers area.

It is weird, because I thought eBay had gone to requiring payments on offers.

Are any of these instances where you sent multiple seller offers that may still be open? I've run into that where it seems like you can accept the counter but your original offers are still open until someone accepts AND pays. But the visibility isn't very good. Maybe this is the same thing you guys are saying...

I had to go look for it when it has happened. The buyer gets a - you won but its not yours until you pay message.

I’ve had it where I accepted an offer, and when I go to that item and look at offers you have to go to “pending” I believe they have it as. And it’ll say that the buyer has been notified they need to update their payment method. That might not be the exact message word for word, but along those lines maybe that’s what you ran into?

This. eBay reports do a great job providing total sales data and then I can subtract expenses from there. I put all my eBay purchases in a spreadsheet along with my retail receipts. Don't overlook milage for post office and card show runs. It's not particularly difficult when using favorite tax software but can be easy to forget some expenses if you don't maintain good records.

Side note: Don't pile up expenses like PSA fees late in the year that results in your net business income going subzero on the year. You can get away with it for a year or two then you become a hobby instead of a business to the IRS. Hobbyists spend money while businesses make money.

All of the item specifics and the description are missing from my templates.

I've also had problems with templates the past two days. I'm listing right now, and my templates are missing the description and shipping service / cost.

I've had problems as well. I'll open a template to create a new listing and the entire thing will be blank. It happened rarely, but it happened. The template itself was fine.

I had a buyer open a return on a cheap item. My fault and I told them to open it. It looks like the interface has changed since I did it last. Will it allow me to use Standard Envelope as a return method? It was a Standard Envelope shipment.

To my knowledge, no.

It's so strange going through and raising prices.
