I like the comparison. While Miggy falls behind Pujols in offensive numbers by a little, Miggy and Soto have not had a positive defensive WAR season (although Soto is better), compared to Pujols' great defense.

1. While Soto has approximately a year head start on Cabrera, and their career paths (looking at OPS+) are similar, Soto may have reached his "breakout" or beginning of his peak two years younger than Miggy.

2. I think Soto started with a high OBP and has come into his power, while Cabrera had his power and added to OBP for his peak. If you think increased power will lead to further OBP gains, I like Soto's projection going forward.

3. On the back end of the career, after age 33, I think it's reasonable to project Soto to not fall off as dramatically. Having 4-6 years as a 2 Win player would give him a 10-15 Win advantage on Miggy post 33.

So with all 3 factors, I think Soto looks much more promising

Nobody knows how Soto will age. Unless he has another gear, 8fwar is probably his peak as he will likely never bat in front of a player having a better season than Judge and will never do enough defensively to get much higher. For reference, Ohtani's 50/50 season was worth 9.1fwar and Soto is never going to do that.

If you think he plays out the contract, and unless the USD becomes worthless that contract will never be traded, that's 15 years and lets say he averages 27HR a year which is low, that will get him to 600. He will go down as the greatest Met of all time unless he falls off a cliff like Miggy, Votto, Pujols etc and even Pujols hung around long enough to get 700.

Topps Now with a quality in design “face lift”, or a “past years present” monthly/voted on by fans release would be welcomed… and would instantly be their best product that’s actually affordable.

Same people who complain about ( insert all gripes about todays wax sealed product breakers etc. ) don’t like a product that they let you :

vote for sp images, only on card autos no peelers, 3 parallel not 50, serial numbered mem game specific to card image not non GU, you can actually buy the player you want with a chance to get an auto or parallel (same as sealed), it does come in a pack ( pack issued), they do have a check list, there’s nothing wrong but the design and delivery.

I’m solid off Chris berman hobby box, Bob Ross (rip), cosmic for the most part nearly entirely, and few others. I won’t get into the removal of OD and SCC.

These guys at Topps are detached and Topps now apparently is our only way as collectors to actually choose an image for a card/player….i think it happened once.

Also, Yes the Ohtani mem and cards should not be Topps now and be a sealed release or an addition to dynasty for the consumers as a special gift… without a price increase. Standard dynasty price.

Sorry for the rant but with all the crap being released and always buying off eBay, I’d rather buy off Topps now maybe before it gets to Cheeto fingers. What’s the difference , we all don’t open anything…. anymore …. Anyways !

OBP is a central component of WAR, and nobody does it better than Soto. It’s also worth noting that Ohtani reached 9.1 fWAR without any defensive value, so Soto doesn’t necessarily need significant defensive contributions to achieve similar levels of value.

He needs to be better than last year which was a career year. Also Judge does it better .458 obp to .419. Vladdy was closer to Soto than Soto to Judge.
