Without question, there are a lot of unreasonable sellers...especially when it comes to Trout. Sellers are emboldened by the market, and I would also go so far as to say some sellers treat potential customers differently (more poorly) when selling Trout as opposed to most other players. I am no exception - I have knowingly overpaid on a bunch of stuff recently and I hate myself for it. LOL. I am just glad that I finally completed my main collecting goal when it comes to Trout...so I am looking forward to sitting on the sidelines a lot more now and just enjoying the season. My wallet (and my posterior) certainly needs the rest.

I was mainly referring to 2012 Topps Update Target Red and Black since 2011 Red and Black are out of reach for most collectors

I sold my 2012 Update Target Red PSA 8.5 yesterday for 400 to a zero feedback buyer who hasn’t paid — just an update since there is talk about update colors.

This. I have overpaid and I’ve gotten cards fairly inexpensive. I unfortunately overpaid for my 2011 Prime Cuts Mike Trout because it rarely pops up on eBay and there are only 99 of them. But I can also say I paid more for this Prime Cuts than I paid for my 2009 Trout Bowman Chrome Auto PSA 9 when I bought it years ago. When it arrives, I can finally sit back and enjoy the season knowing I finally complete my “Trout Base Rookie Card” collection.

You and JJeanius had goals that were recently completed. I don't have any sort of goals set for cards. I just continue endlessly buying his cards. Some for PC, some to resell to go towards other PC ones. I don't know what kind of goals I could make that I would find as a challenge. Which is what I think goals are met to be.

Thanks for the kind words. Since the Prime Cuts are numbered to #99, it’s really hard to say what is the true value. MLBEXPERT recently bought and negotiated his PSA 8 for $555 (asking BIN price was $700). I told him he was lucky I didn’t see it on eBay before him because I would of immediately hit that $700 BIN button. Shortly and surprisingly after, another PSA 8 popped up on eBay, but this time it was an auction. I guess another buyer wanted it as much as me and placed a high bid on it when I did.. I ended up winning it for $1800. It only takes two serious buyers to drive up an auction price. I was honestly shocked when I saw the final price after I dropped my bid, but I’m okay with it because it was the last card I needed to complete my goal. Unfortunately, it was the hardest one to find. I’ll post a photo of them all together when I get it in.

I think my search for Trout variation cards will be endless. Some of his variation cards never pop on eBay. Then his new variation cards are tough to find too. It really took me a while to find his new 2019 Opening Day variation card.

I read it was raw but I also know there is at least one trimmed black so i'm not sure why anyone would want to buy raw 8 years later. Sounds like quite the gamble.

This may be a dumb question, but is the '12 Update card undervalued? It's his 2nd year card and it sells for less than 1/10th the price of his rookie?? Also, the '11 has over 4,000 PSA 10s while the '12 has less than 300.

Don't get me wrong, I know the rookie is a much, much better card, but is anyone else surprised the '12 hasn't caught up more?

Sadly, the confirmed trimmed one is #27/60. Very sad that it's the jersey number

Thanks guys! As long as it doesn't have any glaring undisclosed defects, and doesn't come back "altered", then I am good. It does look nice from the pics. Hopefully it looks as nice in person.

And, to caflisch78: IMO there's really no risk given eBay / Paypal buyer protection.

I love 12 Update, and I definitely think there's room to grow. At the same time, I wouldn't consider it "undervalued" @ 1/10th the price of the 11 Update (or thereabouts). As far as collectors are concerned, there is always the rookie...and NOT the rookie...and that gap will always be very, very wide.
