If you can't tell by the replies to your post, paying expedited shipping usually doesn't mean a thing. Topps' shipping method is completely illogical. Hope it works out for you but don't count on getting the box faster than someone who paid the cheapest shipping.

Of course we'd like to see lower prices, but the market heated up and Topps/Panini decided to charge more. Why should NBA FOTL be $350?

Are companies only allowed to make a certain ROI and no more?

I used to think Panini owed us FOTL at MSRP, but I've since come around (thanks @stats).
No Im against market manipulation. NBA Prizm FOTL wouldn't hit $350. But the floor should always be the MSRP. If the market has heated up so much why do I constantly see BO list a preview and see hobby boxes "once again" carry a suggested retail price the same as last year? Flawless NFL same MSRP as last year. Market manipulators pay around $1,400 for a box they presell for $12,000 before they even receive it in the mail. Not like this is only 1 product. It's hundreds upon hundreds for 2 1/2 years straight. Yet Im sure worthless 2022 Prizm Draft NFL retail blasters the MSRP will be raised from last year. It wouldn't sell at last years cost but yeah up the price.

I never thought Panini owed us FOTL at MSRP. The dutch auction system when not manipulated and MSRP floor is the most fair system out there.

The worst part about all the market manipulation is it's not like these people are starving or having a tough time getting by. Would it really kill them to only average making a couple times what they pay before even receiving product in the mail? Groups like BO could sell their entire allotment of boxes at actual market value and still make a killing 99 times out of 100. They could sell it all in days or at most weeks. But why do that when you can put up a market manipulated price? Make sure you screw every customer you can for every last penny.

Really a reprint of 1977 Star Wars Series 1 & 2 in the Sapphire Design. Then the parallels of different colors that are serial numbered.

I would be patient. If its like every other Sapphire release, they'll drop in price a bit once in hand.

because i collect cards, not memorabilia.

my response was more of a "how have you never heard of them?" type of thing. i understand having no interest, but having no idea what the 1977 Topps Star Wars Set is .... oooofhhh. thats like having no idea who Jim Brown is, even if you dont like football lol

Bought my Monty allocation, plus one on Ebay yesterday for $360 (reputable seller so hopefully it sticks) and another for $350 from another Monty member. Had a chance to get two more at $350 and now I'm absolutely kicking myself for not taking them. Happy with 3 though. May rip one and hang on to two for a while. Have a feeling these hit $1000 easily in a few months

This^^

Flippers are going crazy buying up pre-sale supply because the public sale was a bust and they're expecting a meteoric rise in price, creating a self-fulfilling prophecy.

Time will tell whether these are fully embraced by the SW collecting crowd at these prices but a glut of boxes listed after they arrive in-hand will likely drive prices down, at least temporarily.

That being said, these are not like every other Sapphire release. The only true comps would be GPK, 2020 F1, and 2019/20 UEFA; first-time releases in their respective markets, all of which are at or over $1000/box.

this is the first two series of the original set (there were five series)

Empire was three series and then Jedi was two series

I guess I always knew about the c3p0 card, but didn't make the connection to this. I assume there are legal issues preventing topps from doing 1952 sapphire.

Why buy an RPA with a piece of a randomly worn jersey vs. a signed and authenticated game used jersey for a fraction of the price?

It's for the first two 1977 releases. There were 5 in all in 1977 for A New Hope, then 3 ESB sets, and 2 ROTJ sets so expect a few more years of Sapphire releases I would imagine.

Most of that isn't actually worn from a game, they just throw on 50 jerseys at a time. I saw a lot of videos about auctions at propstore in la that just happened. They had an actual x-wing from episode 4 and yes I would much rather have that than any 1/1 topps prints.

That's my entire point - most rookie patch autos are not from a real game yet go for 10x what it would cost to get an actual authenticated jersey that is signed by a player.

Look at the stupid triple logoman for instance. You can get game used Lebron jerseys from all 3 teams he played for for 1/10th what that is going for.

For whatever reason people prefer the cards to the real thing. Some of it might have to do with storage and display, who knows.

Agreed. I don’t see boxes settling below $1K once all the dust settles. I mean GPK makes no sense to be as high as it is. The singles have tanked in value and the Adam Bomb 1/1 has already been pulled. Not much upside from where the prices are at relative to what can be pulled. Yet people are paying high prices still.

Conclusion: Star Wars Sapphire will hold value just fine
