The neon courts make it literally unwatchable.

The Dodgers (worth ~$4.8bil) were only able to give Ohtani (arguably the most valuable player any of us has ever seen) $700m because of the immediate and future revenue he would bring in from the Japanese market, 90% of it is deferred, AND because they were/are in a championship window. If any of those three things didn't exist, that deal doesn't happen.

Soto, on the other hand, is a very very very very good hitter.... an easy Hall of Fame path. BUT, he's not going to bring in any revenue that you can compare to the Japanese market and we're not sure if he's interested in deferrals.

The only real comparisons you can make are Mike Trout (12yr / $426m at age 27) and Aaron Judge (9yr / $360m at age 31)

I would be surprised if he gets a penny over $550m. If he does, then other owners should either start saving their money or get out of town because things are about to get expensive.
Agreed

His walk to strikeout rate looks great in the minors but will it translate to the big leagues is the question.

Soto is going to get a boatload, anyone comparing to Trout or even Judge ignore age and how much sports contracts have increased across the board.

Time to bring in fresh blood. I think after awhile everybody wears out their welcome.

Yes he’s got youth on his side but I don’t think he would or should want a long term contract. He could play the field at least 4 more times with 3 year contracts and probably make more.

The quicker the better as it least then they can go forward with other movements.

I love Soto, but he is basically a DH. If Witt were a free agent this offseason would he get 1B lol

Very possible a more complete player, Soto is a one trick pony. Great hitter whereas Witt jr can hit field steal bases and he is just getting started. If he improves yearly he will probably be the highest paid player by his next contract.

That one trick is going to be his ticket to the inner circle of the HoF.

I doubt he gets "inner circle". Even Pujols fell short of 100fwar. He'd have to run, and field to really get that. He could easily go down as one of the best hitters of his generation and his eye for the strike zone won't be going anywhere, but his ability to hit for average over the next 15 years is no guarantee. Just look at Votto, he fell off by age 34.

oh boy, I just realized that my idea of HoF inner circle might be bigger than other people's. hahaha And I definitely don't use WAR to determine.

Ortiz, Jeter, Halladay (RIP), Rivera, Vlad, Chipper, Griffey, Piazza, Randy, Pedro, Maddux, Thomas

He's def on a HOF path and barring injury or some huge dropoff will likely be a first ballot lock, but inner circle I view as more all time greats, your mantles, mays, ruth, aaron etc.

As long as we don't have to watch him blow saves anymore. Can't imagine giving almost 13m a year to the worst closer.

Well if you go to mets reddit they think holmes will be lugo 2.0 based only on the fact that both were bullpen pitchers.

Well their pitching is definitely a step behind compared to last year not a good thing for a supposed contender.
