the advanced metrics are probably not far from wrong and he's probably the most impactful player in the game since MJ/Bron. As long as Murray & Co. are healthy the Nuggets could be perennial title contenders for a while.

I was kinda surprised to see the other MVP candidates knocked out as they were (Tatum being on the verge of elimination), perhaps it reflects the nature of the league today and it helps just to be the last man standing.

You telling me his 23andme report returned Guangdong ties?

I've been bamboozled. In the best way possible. Rui'll have to take a backseat on my smitten list.

i've been following price movements on the joker bass card I have, there was a run-up in the latter part of the season as the 3-in-a-row-MVP talk was at its hottest, then a fall back down as Embiid took over the narrative, but they're back up to the February-ish peak or a bit higher.

will chapmans be a legend of kard klecting if/when joker becomes a legend of the game? klecters will be asking where all the high-end Joker stuff is, and they'll all come to learn that chapmans cornered the market.

The funny thing is I sold off 30 LeBron RC Ultimate Autos and 300 + Chrome Gems (including 3 Gold BGS 9.5's) to fund the Jokic collection back in '18.

Had I just left them alone, it'd be worth a lot more.

As of now anyway.

if Nugs win the ring, what are the odds that MVP Voter Remorse next season means a unanimous MVP for Joker if he has a season roughly resembling his last three

[Russo] According to the NBA's admittedly wonky matchup data, Nikola Jokic defended Anthony Davis for 421 possessions in the Conference Finals. Davis shot 47.3% on those possessions, according to the matchup data. Davis defended Jokic for 263 possessions. Jokic shot 53%.

Good question... the landscape is changing... this is probably the last year Bron "looks like" a 1/2 capable of running a team deep into the playoffs. The narratives will be on the changing of the guard. Giannis and Embiid will be coming off major disappointments while Jokic may be sporting a ring. Luka/Trae/Grizz/Wemby will still be talked about as 'next' and who knows what Boston will look like.

Ja/Zion expectations will likely be much lower. Question marks about Tatum's drive will be plentiful.

OKC will be buzzy, how much so depends on how good Chet looks in pre-season and/or if they make any additions.

Hard to say too much until the coaching carousel stops and the dust settles on the draft and FA acquisitions and trades.

He needs a better nickname, Joker is anything but Jokic. Magician, Assassin, something cool...

what if, just what if, the metrics are basically right and he's like a top 3-5 all-time player. We all know that Denver would have made deep playoff runs these past two years if they had a healthy Murray.

The core stars of the team are just now entering their late 20s, with health they could have several Finals appearances? Are the Bucks aside from Giannis aging out? And how often will Giannis be healthy for the playoffs? (I keep noticing Joker just not having this availability problem these other superstars are having lately. I really think it has a lot to do with a playing style meant to preserve his body as much as possible, and that even includes doing layups off the backboard when other players would elevate more off the floor to do a dunk (and possibly land funny).) Embiid/76ers should be an easy out beyond the 2nd round. Everyone's talking about how lousy a situation Luka is in support-wise. Who does that leave that isn't aging out? So there's the Celtics, and they'll have what it takes in the coming years to outdo the Jokic-Murray-et-al attack?

The haters and doubters should eat crow

Depends what next year's narrative is for other players. Does Luka come to camp in terrific shape, ready to dominate? Does Tatum refocus? Do Giannis/KD play a whole season?

Jokic could definitely win but I don't think we've really seen voter remorse before. But we've seen voters withhold voting for a guy due to lack of postseason success. So if Jokic wins a chip, he'll be eligible in the minds of voters again, just like Giannis was after 2021.

put a great passing center in there with guys who can shoot (besides being a great shooter himself), and you end up with championships. But we're told that advanced metrics value assists from Centers too much. (Is it because of use of coefficients by position rather than some linear adjustment?) I thought the idea was how readily one could replace a great-passing Center given all the passing skills out there (combined with other skillsets).

The only area where he isn't world-class is on defensive plays requiring stuff he doesn't have (namely great athleticism). Far as I can tell, he compensates a ton there with high-BBIQ play. Someone said that Bam was killing him last night (on shots near the free-throw line). Bam was all of 13/25 from the field, though. The thought seemed to be, we'll let Bam take his shots while almost everyone else on Miami is struggling. (26 points on 25 FG attempts for Bam, 27 on 12 attempts for joker. But it's only one game. )

McNutt on ESPN this morning called him "Optimus Dime"

I like that one.

Thoughts on a value for a Silhouettes RC Auto? I've been sitting on one for a while and might cash out if/when they get the chip.

I guess more accurately, since the last one went for $2k, how much of a bump will it get?

Often player value is tied to player charisma, the team fandom (Lakers, Knicks, Bulls outshine smaller market cities like Charlotte, Denver, Utah).

At least Nikola has a nickname that's cool and sticks.

I do feel there's a bit of reverse-racism in Basketball cards 'tho there's always the one or two "GOATS of their playing ERA" who are White, like Nash, Dirk, Pau, Bird, Stockton, etc. - - there's only a handful of 'em but the Black players have all the swagger and sizzle within the hobby. I speculate the Caucasians have the "White Men Can't Jump" boring stigma and any non-Americans, from Europe are seen as "Foreigners" and generally aren't engaging personalities off the court to get fans hyped up. It's kind of why the Hockey Card hobby is a distant 4th place behind NBA, MLB and NFL.

I don't think Nikola isn't popular at all, he's a 2x MVP and current favorite to have a HOF career, but as a "Basketball Card Collector Favorite" which is different from being a player, champion and winner, he's simply not that interesting until he works a lot harder to earn that praise and attention.
