***Official CAITLIN CLARK Thread***

Can someone who has been following the league for at least a few years give me a run down of 1) who typically watches and 2) who typically collects the WNBA.

I've read up on the league's history enough to teach it in my class, but I've never been to a game and I'm pretty unfamiliar (stereotypes aside) with what the 2024 fanbase actually looks like.

There is a really good WNBA group for collectors on FB. You have people that have collected since the start of the WNBA products back in the late 90s and you have people that are just now getting into the collecting aspect. People move a lot of low to mid end items there. Set collecting, player collecting, etc.

The type of people really range, with men and women both. I've personally collected WNBA since the first Prizm release, so not too long, but I appreciate a lot of the older cards and collections.

As far as who is attending, you've got a lot of families going to games these days. I know several guys that use games as father/daughter experiences. Again, the range is wide for who is attending. Celebrities of all kinds are typically in attendance as well, depending on the city and who is playing.

I believe the incident is being blown out of proportion. It was a intimidation foul on a rookie. Clark isn’t even close to being the first to have this occur because it happens in the NBA, MLB, NHL, NFL, NASCAR & Premiere League. Michael Jordan use to be abused as well as every other young star that each sport polices.

Clark’s nature is being cocky and she can back it up. She will need to put a little size on her like many others because even if she is drawing attention from the fans, media and networks. Caitlyn’s opponents main concern is to shut her down, otherwise their head coach will find a replacement that will. Leagues can’t bubble wrap their stars, hence Gretzky had his enforcers, like baseball has theirs. In the end, Clark and the league will have to realize that the money she brings in doesn’t mean a thing to the players who have a job at shutting her down.

This is basically what Monica McNutt was saying. And she also said that people that never watched a WNBA game before Clark have no business commenting and having an opinion on it. And it imagine that applies to 99% of the people in this thread.

It's part of the rookie experience and has been that way for the history of the league. I've never watched a WNBA game and never will so I'll take her word for it

There've been some legends before - Lisa Leslie, Sue Bird, Diana Taurasi

but I'd say the fanbase is pretty miniscule at this point, which is where somebody like Caitlin Clark fits perfectly. The league needs her. The other teams need her. It is a match made in heaven.

My only real opinion is I would've care if the WNBA folded today and if it was a independent league it would have 25 years ago.

That's really interesting. I'd love to interview a few of those longtime collectors.

The WNBA scheduling doesn’t make any sense, with some teams front loaded with back to backs and other teams back loaded with back to backs. I understand the Olympics are partly responsible but it’s very weird when you have some teams that have played 30-40% more games when some of the teams are 9-10 games in.

WNBA is probably last in the pecking order for arena use. I think only two arenas are owned by the NBA teams themselves (GS and CHI). WNBA teams probably get what is left over after the big entertainment draws like concerts, wrestling, and monster trucks schedule.

I know more people in LA that have gone to a moster truck show then a Sparks game
