Justin - I agree with you that owners should contact past buyers if they discover a card has been altered. I wanted to pick your brain on this one.

What's the timeframe on this look like? What if the seller finds out years later? What should that discussion look like?

Also, I'd think in a case like the LeBron Limited Logos - we created a timeline that shows that BNC didn't trim it but also shows the line of ownership up to him. Is that something he presents to a buyer now? It looks like the card was sold by him sometime in 2018.

Just finished watching the episode. It's really worth watching. As others have said, it's altering cards for newbies, and previous to this thread, I was definitely a newbie.

I was very much unaware though about bumping and it's prevalence. To hear guys send cards in again and again for the sake of a grade bump and making more money? Urrgggh.
I went back and read ebitz's post and that's all he seems to be about and is very open about it. Bumping and making money. I'm with Josh and Justin, if I was into graded cards, I'd be very happy with my PSA 8!!

The episode was mostly about being aware if you're a buyer. To me this is like making sure your house is locked, so as not to give the burglars a chance. I'd like to see more emphasis on catching and spreading the word on the burglars themselves. If the onus is on the buyers all the time then the problem will exist forever. We need to blow up the names (with strong evidence as Justin says in the vid) of people doing this.

If someone like Kevin Burge is a known trimmer and has been for 20 years, how the hell does he get to set up at the National?
ebitz mentions in his one post that we want the next Nat Turner to come in and embrace the hobby. The next Nat Turner could easily go to the National and spend $50k at Kevin Burge's table, and then we all go 'ahhh should've locked your house mate...'

Pathetic that there are trimmers that have been known for 2 decades and still are power brokers the big shows court and setup there or have fronts set up for them.

Yea I mentioned that above, I don't get that, how do you get to 'set up' there?

They simply stay silent because they need a resource to funnel cards through to make $$$ in this hobby. Its that simple. There are a few on here that are still maintaining a relationship with BNC for this reason. Its not hard to figure who they are.

One of the bigger ones is actually courted by shows due to his inventory

For all you guys that go to these shows, why not step up and call these guys out. Hold a giant sign that calls these fools out. I've never been to a show and they never have them where I am. Everyone pitch in a get some shirts printed up and all of you wear them with pride.

Even better. Write to the NSCC show. Call the NSCC out on twitter and instagram. Use their tag #NSCC19. Call out their hotel partners - Hyatt, Lowes, Marriott, Hilton, Wyndham etc - let them know their partnering with a Convention that turns a blind eye to fraudulent behaviour. They'll only start to do something when it starts to cost them money or becomes a PR disaster.

Let's be real here - who's actually going to do any of this? I know with pretty good certainty that less than a handful of people have even called/texted some of the people we think are involved to chat with them. It doesn't get much easier than calling or texting.

Simple fix. Tell them that you saw Kevin wearing a MAGA hat.

I don't know about you guys, but due to these rampant trimming of cards, I'm reluctant to pay premium for any high graded cards. I would rather stick with grading of 8.5 to 9. If every collector feels the same way, this will hurt the trimmers' and the graders' bottom line.

The problem is that a lot of these guys are our friends and we hate to rat them out. It would be nice if they stepped up themselves and chose to do the right thing, but, if they haven't done that by now, they never will.

False alarm.

Also, BNC is still a coward.

Just a train of thought, how does NSCC allow guys like Burge in if they have a Criminal Record? I mean all you have to do is take a look at what this guy's been arrested for and realize that there are children at these shows as well... Why doesn't anyone write to them letting them know about this? I can see why people would be hesitant about Eric because there hasn't been any official criminal offense dropped on him (although I do believe he has some sort of involvement in the fraud that has been commit); however, people like Burge who set up at shows need to be axed immediately. I wouldn't want anyone's kid around a guy who has been arrested multiple times for crimes involving violence.

Arrested for something does not mean he was convicted. I saw the post about him being arrested for strangulation. As serious as that is, many of those cases get dismissed if an alleged victim decides not to prosecute because the People cannot go forward. Unless a person disobeys an order of protection during the pendency of the case, they usually walk away with nothing unless there is a cooperating witness, medical records and/or other witnesses. The National releases a list of registered dealers (sometimes people share tables though and might not be listed). You could always check if he is on the list or was on a past list, but he could always have someone else register for him.
