It was dangerous when I went to bed last night. When I was checking in at work today I was shocked it was still alive and kicking.

True... I was pretty shocked it was still chugging along. The mods must've been stuck in meetings all day.

What are your thoughts on Cruz and McCain being questioned about their legitimacy? Was that racist? Or are only dark skinned people off limits to question?

As far as your noose question, did Trump post those images? And to answer, THAT is an actual example of racism - nice to see an example thrown out that is actually racism even though it has nothing to do with Trump.
Racism, I believe, is all about intent. The intent was not to find out if Obama was eligible to run for office. The intent was to smear and sow doubt regarding the first ever Black president. And Trump helped do that.

As for Cruz, I believe there was also a racial component to that. This country has shown a tendency to distrust those who do not sport Anglo-Saxon surnames.

McCain and Romney - that was a combination of people fishing for ways to discredit them and the occasional "Constitutional thought experiment"

Nobody made up the circumstances surrounding McCain and Cruz’s births. They did with Obama. I don’t know if that makes it racist, but it’s not comparable.

As an FYI, the Constitution doesn’t define what a natural born citizen is and the Supreme Court has never taken it up.

I watched the bats fly around a bit tonight. It's high 60 degrees, the moon is at about 40%. Where I'm at, there is no sound, except for me playing Social Distortion, and my wife coming out on the balcony and looking at me like I am crazy. I probably am.

I agree but the current narrative doesn't.

Racism is no longer about actual intent, it's about bias, it's about acceptance and norms. It's about things that are relatively benign that are based around feeling and perception. The intent is not important and not a part of the conversation anymore.

Would anyone here have a problem with anyone becoming President as long as they were legally an American citizen? Even if they weren’t born here?

Not baiting just genuinely curious. I don’t think I would but haven’t really put much thought into it. I’d assume if they did change that there would probably be a list/blacklist of countries

We have two porch swings at our front entrance, my wife is from the South and knows how to make Iced Tea. C'mon, friend!

My initial thought is that no... no problem here. The system should sort itself out in terms of who wins. I can't see being concerned about some radical candidate winning because they wouldn't get enough votes anyway, regardless of citizenship. I'm open to the possibility that this is a bad idea for reasons I haven't considered, but I don't see a problem with it.

Here in the southern part of the state we had nice storms roll through this afternoon and are still stuck with the clouds. The humidity turned up afterward so it's kind of foggy too. The peepers are still loud though; almost drowning out the Tigers vs Cubs game on TV.

I'll meet you halfway on the bolded. I'd say his intent was to prove he was ineligible in order to smear him. However, I think from everything we've seen from the President I think it's more logical that he did it for political/business reasons rather than he's just a hardcore racist. As for the rest, I can agree with you.

I wouldn't as long as the candidate didn't have dual citizenship and had been an American citizen for a certain amount of time.

That was pretty much my thought process. Not taking into consideration any legalities that would come up, I personally wouldn't have any problem with it and if they put together a platform I can get behind I'll vote for them.

I am most upset about not having a Taco Bell up here. Oh yes, I can go to St J. and get it, but I am still stupidly upset.

Also, that Fun Spot is closed. I love playing pinball there, and some of the old-school video games. I still have Gaunlet: Dark Legacy and the original 3-person X-Men game sitting in a storage locker.

I don't do much fast food anymore, but when I do it's McDonald's. Still can't beat a double QP with cheese. It's usually saved for a nice treat after hiking in the whites. I can't imagine how much money I've spent at the McDs in Lincoln.

I've been meaning to get a Double Dragon arcade one of these days. Or just build my own box with a bunch of emulators installed. That defeats a lot of the nostalgia though.
