Safe investment is annuity or money market account now till the market flips. The bond market sucks right now

I-bond rate is 9.62% right now. Nice place to park $10k to protect it against inflation.

Except you're locked in and it tracks CPI so when that comes down it's going to be yielding next to nothing.

The fixed rate on ibonds is 0% and you have to hold for what... 5 years before you take withdraw without penalty?

Imo I bonds only make sense if you think inflation is going up not when it's at a 40 year high.

I mean it all depends on what you're doing with the $10k. If it's going to sit in a bank earning nothing, might as well buy the bond.

Even if you take it out after first year they only take 3 months of interest. Would still give a ~7% risk free yield. Taxable none the less but still better than sitting in cash. I doubt inflation will roll over to nothing in the next 365 days.

Well they recalculate in 6mos. So if you figure CPI has come in to 5-6% that rate gonna come way down then you’re locked in for another 6mos so realistically you’re not getting 7% in a year so you’re maybe getting 4-5% and whatever taxes are.

Even if it was gonna be 7% you don’t think if you put $10k into SPY right now you’re gonna get a 7% return in a year?

I just can’t rationalize an ibond when by most measures CPI has peaked / is peaking. 8% rate of change MoM is a really high number and we’re already seeing demand destruction. Add in that SPY is down what, 25% or something?

No brainer to buy SPY over ibonds right now.

But of course if the only 2 options are ibonds or money in the bank obviously ibonds. There’s absolutely no reason to be keeping money in a bank right now

You aren’t locked in after a year. You give back points in months 13-15 but you are good after month 15.

ATHA took a beating today. I have a small position in it, so it's not going to kill me, but it's just comical at this point how bad I am at this!

Thanks, I don't know the specifics about how / when you can withdraw. I just don't understand why you'd buy an i bond with peaking, 40 year high inflation rates.

Wouldn't mind a red week. +7% move between my deposit and it clearing. Now just going to leave it sitting there.

I had thought that, but I wasn’t convinced enough to hold anything over the weekend. I think month- and quarter-end window dressing will be in full effect while pensions buy in and rebalance.

July 5th and onward is when I expect to see downside again. July 28th should bring some fireworks when the first Q2 GDP estimate is released.

Pre-Holiday Effect is this week and should help bring some gains.

Smart move. Should be interesting on Monday. Does anyone think twitter will actually take this to court? They could be exposed for the actual fraud on investors and corporations paying for AD's because of bots. Which opens them up to more litigation. There is no win either way if your twitter. Just my opinion.

Yes, they should take him to court. It's not on them to go into how many accounts are bots, Elon waived diligence and now he's gotta face those consequences.

I've always held that he did this as a way to unload some Tesla stock without causing a massive drop in value. He just did it at the worst possible time as the market headed into a bear market.

The Board of Twitter owes their shareholders to do whatever they can to hold Elon to the deal he made on his own.
