Thanks! The 05 and 09 ones are my fave as I like the action shots used. 08 being the worst with him 'clapping' lol.

You def should have been more aggressive in the gold. I do think that was a solid price.

It is a beauty. Sometimes I think about selling a lot of my stuff and going in on something really big, but I just can't.

09 is super nice also. I prefer 09 over 03 as they have far better colour and actions shots.

I'm kicking myself now on the Gold MJ. So stupid of me.

I do have an 05 Gold Ray Allen but it's a part of a set chase. I'll think of you if I ever give up.

I now have MJ base 2004, 2005, 2007 and 2009. Slowly getting there. Gonna be tough to get a 2003 for a decent price.
Excellent pickup, and at a very great price! Thursday evening is a terrible time to end an auction, so good deals can be found in that weekly auction! Hopefully you get all the Jordan's soon - The 03/04 has come down quite a bit and is probably close to the floor. I am extremely happy with the current prices and I picked up the last 03/04 Jordan Base /225 (PWCC) and Gold /25 (Goldin). The NBA licensed Exquisites are some of the best modern cards released, I'd prioritize a Jordan over anything released in the last decade if you want one and don't have it yet! Especially the 03/04 Jordan, which checks all boxes for long-term collectability and will still be in heavy demand 50 years from now... It's also cool that it's the first year after Jordan's retirement so you have his Wizards and career stats on it. Good luck!

I was hoping you got that 05/06 Gold as I stayed away from it hoping you would get it! Either way, it's good it ended so low as people these days are always looking for "comps" and now your next one will be at a great price!

You know I still prefer the 03/04 Base set due to the player selection, classic design, and the picture selection! I do agree with you that the 09/10 base /199 does have the same classic design and they used some great action shots - and I even love the player selection in that base set - it's my second favorite. But, if it was even possible, I'm actually getting more and more pulled into the 03/04 set - it has everything you want in a long term collectible! 95% will decline in value by the end of your life, but the good ones will continue to increase... 03/04 has all the criteria - amazing RC class, first of it's kind release, classic design recognized by all, scarcity, condition sensitive - to allow even more scarcity and people to get placeholders and "trade up" over time, etc... it's passed the test of time already so whatever "big" item you were thinking of I'd recommend going for it in the next year or so - then share here! I'm a hoarder, so I'd actually be happy if the set crashed and was worthless and I could pick up all I want dirt cheap, but I'm seeing a lot of new bidders for what I collect... we are finding the floor here and I hope it lasts a few more years - especially if people are distracted with VW and Fanatics, but that won't last too long...

Ughhh yes, I'll regret that Jordan Gold for a while I'd say. I thought the 9 grade might have raised it up a bit, but if I could buy the same card today for the same price I'd be paying up.

You're right about the Exquisite condition, it plays a huge factor. I love my PSA 8 Kobe and MJ 03 base, as you know it's a great grade, I actually prefer my copies to some of the PSA 9s and BGS 9s out there. I think graders are all over the place with grading Exquisite.

I need Iverson and KG base still though.

Cool card but way overgraded. Back looks particularly rough. And surface subgrade a 9? Obvious surface damage around the auto. Man I wish I could get this kind of generous grading. That card would have been a 6 or 6.5 if I submitted it lol.

I find it curious how basketball exquisite is so coveted, yet early football exquisite (despite having all the same desirable traits, on-card autos and GU patches) have very little traction.

Truth is, basketball card collecting as a whole is just worlds and worlds bigger than football card collecting. Basketball card collecting is truly global, whereas football card collecting outside of the USA is very limited.

I never knew there was early Exquisite football.

Exquisite Basketball featured so many 90s stars as well as the biggest names at the time.

We're talking 20 years in and plenty of Exquisite is still the pinnacle and somewhat affordable unless you're after rare stuff of Bron, MJ and Kobe.

I'm not shocked fusball ain't near the same level.

Yes, that's true.

I'm curious though, does that mean that the price disparity is solely from the international audience?

Seems like such a massive gap, especially for the top tier player stuff.

The designs were incredible too, with a lot of on-card triple and quads/game worn shields of legends. All can be had for less than a 10th of the top tier basketball stuff.

It's wild.

I do remember a similar discussion, probably 10 years ago, where 90s Basketball collectors were explaining to modern collectors why the 90s cards were so popular. They were saying it was because of design! Someone made a great point that Football had the same designs but it was still sitting on the shelf.

I walked past a box of Football SPx from the grand finale year, I want to say the box was $60.

I think the 90s era of basketball just brought in such a huge chunk of fans.

And 2003 to 2010 was not far removed from those 90s guys

Sigh. What a time. Take me back.

Yep one of my favorite cards in my collection is a Triple On Card Auto of Emmitt/Barry Sanders/Thurman Thomas numbered to 15..granted I bought it pre covid but I'd bet even today a sale would pale in comparison to a similar basketball counterpart

I'm almost there. This big boy just popped up in my SMC account today!

Just need 2006 and 2008 and then ill have all the MJ Bulls uniform base exquisites.

Does anyone have any leads on where I can get the 06 and 08 cards? Or anyone selling them? I'm fine to pay slightly above comps but not extortionate prices... lol

And this sweet thing.

Go it graded BGS 9.5 and the first one to get that grade, sod it some years back for a crazy price.
One of the coolest patches.
