Is anyone else ready for a Freddy or Jason remake? I'd love to see some of the old school guys back again.
I know I'm in the minority here but I HATED It Follows. I felt like nothing happened the entire movie and I just wasn't a fan of any of the characters. It's a great concept and I do wish that more was explained but I just couldn't get into it.

I'm more than ready for the F13 sequel, especially with the found footage idea scrapped, but my excitement is fully directed at Jeepers Creepers 3. Man, I love that creature and the lore around it.

I find the Conjuring a lot more terrifying thank Babadook. It's probably due to the Conjuring being based on true events ( F.Y.i - Best Horror Book/Audiobook *The Demonologist: The Extraordinary Career of Ed & Lorraine Warren*). Babadook is actually completely made up. The word babadook was made up specifically for the movie. They wanted a name that was spooky and something a kid would be able to pronounce.

Nothing in horror means as much to me as Michael Myers and the Halloween franchise. With the announcement that Carpenter is back to produce and provide the score for the new sequel, I couldn't be happier. This will be an even bigger deal if Adam Wingard signs on to direct.

It's about time that real horror returns to theaters and in turn hopefully kills the trend of these crappy Insidious jump scare movies.

I wish someone like Carpenter, or someone who's near the genius of him, could remake a Friday The 13th that's worthy of Jason Voorhees.

Writing has always been the problem with the Friday franchise, and that may soon be corrected...

"There has been a lot of back and forth when it comes to a new entry in the Friday the 13th franchise. From new writers to new directors to “back to the drawing board” and everything in between, it feels like the chance of us seeing Jason Voorhees hack and slash his way through counselors again is but a distant hope. However, Platinum Dunes co-founder Brad Fuller has just opened up in an interview about the current status of the film.

Firstly, he explains that the current writer is Aaron Guzikowski, who wrote the 2013 crime mystery film Prisoners. “He’s a better writer than we deserve for this franchise,” Fuller gushes. At this point, he explains that he and the studio sent notes back to Guzikowski and they’re just waiting for an updated version of the script before deciding on the next step."

I hope for the best. I grew up on Jason (and Michael Myers, as well), and he (Jason) was always my favorite.

Anyone else think The Shallows could actually be halfway decent? Anyone go see The Conjuring 2 yet?

Conjuring 2 was very good, but different from the first. I was surprised to be one of 7 people in the theater on opening night

Can anyone suggest some newish horror movies (past 5 years) that are worth the look?

Going to see The Conjuring 2 tomorrow.

Watched The Witch yesterday. Not as scary as was touted, but decent horror flick.

Babadook was cool but still nothing compares to THE CONJURING ....

Insidious and Sinister were also amazing.

so I finally watched "Cell". It was a book by Stephen King (and a pretty decent one). THe movie... is not very good.

the movie deviated from the books in quite a few areas, and not really for the better. The main "villain" is hardly mentioned and you don't really get the sense that he's supposed to be a big part of the story. The ending also changed from what I remember in the book.

i can't even say it's worth a watch unless you absolutely HAVE to see how they butchered the book. Sad thing is, King wrote the screenplay

Cusack and SL Jackson couldn't save it, which is saying something.

Of the last 5 years I think Insidious, Sinister, and The Conjuring are at the top of the list in terms of mainstream horro movies.

Thanks for the info on Cell. Stephen King is awesome so I think I'll check out the book... not the movie.

Has anyone listed Pet Cemetery?? That movie scared the crap out of me as kid. "Raaaaachel"... ugh, makes me me cringe.

Watched the Conjuring 2 over the weekend.....not bad....not anything great but worth the watch. Rented 10 Cloverfield Lane...it was just meh...nothing great but nothing good. On Friday I'll be watching "The Other Side of the Door" or whatever it's called. Not expecting anything great.

sitting through 10 Cloverfield Lane, and i'm amazed at how they even caught Dan Goodman's fat-man breathing.

I've got to say though, a lot of the first half drama is totally due to Goodman's character just not speaking properly. I hate it when movies do that, but then again not everybody is as good at speaking as I am so I guess it's a realistic portrayal of a shut-in.

it was also very clever of the trailer to play up the "escape" scene like it was the climax. a lot of trailers lately seem to give away the movie, so it's nice when a properly cut trailer does its job correctly.

i am extremely claustrophobic when it comes to small spaces, so the duct scene gave me anxiety for just the enclosed space.

solid couple of swerves, that one. enjoyed it.

so i've periodically been asking this in the zombie movie thread, but i figured maybe i'd try here.

i distinctly remember having this movie on VHS, so it is pre-2000 release date i think. It was a zombie movie that wasn't all that great if my memory serves correctly. There was one scene that i remember vividly, but cannot seem to put in the right search terms to find it on google.

basically, these people were running from zombies and i vaguely feel like they were in some sort of underground complex. As they are running away, they see a church or chapel with people sitting inside. THey burst in, ask for help, and all of a sudden all of the people (and the priest) look at them and are zombies. SWERVE! Then they start chasing them too.

again, it was stupid. but i very much want to see it again haha.

any ideas?

DEMONS by Dario Argento? Only thing I vaguely recall that kind of reminds me of what you describe.

The Shallows SUCKED! I read on IMDB that a lot of people liked it but I think it was mostly girls or people that don't watch much horror in general. My Brother and I both agreed that it was one of the worst movies we've seen this year.

I liked The Conjuring 2 A LOT! Long movie but something was going on every minute of the movie. Can't wait to see it again when it comes to DVD.
