But actually, even though we all have our own definitions, there is a correct answer based on precedent. The problem is...all elements of the flagship rookie card precedent do not all come together for Acuna in the typical way—as Bat Down and Bat Up Factory Set combine to give us the Ronald Acuna Jr. “Flagship rookie card.” Bat Down—first pack pulled, bat up fs-first base flagship card on the complete set checklist—also first with parallels (foilboard & All-Star stamp)—and technically an SSP variation (Bat Down).

What we do know is that Update US250, by the hobby’s definition—set by precedent, is NOT “the” Flagship Acuna Rookie Card. It’s not the first pack-pulled, it’s not the first set checklist card, it’s not the first with parallels, so it can’t be “THE Flagship Rookie Card” when it’s neither of the 3 required elements! What it DOES have going for it is it’s the first card that checks all 3 boxes at once—pack pulled, base set AND parallels—just not the first. The first “flagship rookie card” for Acuna was already released before US250 was printed.

That was a long winded straw man. Which card is the first flagship pack-pulled base card?

He should try adding smartest to that resume, because sliding on the spot where you just hurt yourself sliding is a good way to be the hardest player on the bench for awhile.

Yep. It’s a lengthy explanation in this case for sure. The first “pack-pulled base card” is Update—like I said, first card to check all 3 required elements at once. However, Update was neither the first flagship pack-pulled, or the first base card. All 3 boxes had been checked before the Update card came out on the previously-released Acuna Flagship cards.

I’d say where it usually does. It’s a separate set so it doesn’t complicate the “Flagship rookie card” situation. 193 is his de facto Topps Chrome rookie card.

But isn’t 193 something most people in the hobby value more than the US250?

Wrong. Acuna died. Freeman is writing the obituary. Bullpen will be the pallbearers.

Oh that’s true for a lot of cards. A player’s flagship rookie card isn’t always his most valuable—or most desirable. It’s just important to determine what it is because many collect “flagship rookie cards.” And you can even go off your own definition if you’d like too—but there is a non-opinionated precedent with how the hobby determines these things.

Yes. I heard “abdominal” and that can only mean it was a bad case of the other kind of “Harry Carry” at Wrigley, in Harry Carey’s honor.
