Was thrilled to land this big Mo the other week. Have long term goals to build this set. I love the shine, the design, the embossing, the hand numbering and the theme. I also like that the print run is scarcer for the players with fewer home runs which is sort of an inversion of the usual scarcity/player popularity application. In addition to Mo, I have Castilla and an uncut sheet (which is not embossed or hand numbered).

Two GER pickups to post, a HOF pitcher and one with…..HOF numbers

Trivia fact: the Clemens is the only gold Acquisitions subset card in 97 Finest.

I know I have Jaret Wright, Todd Walker, Andruw Jones, Helton, and possibly another I can't remember.

I've seen the Bernie Williams, Jim Edmonds, Manny Ramirez, and now the Tim Salmon.

I've added the last of the 90s Platinum Medallions to complete the run. It's interesting to see the evolution of these parallels. In 1997, the Platinum Medallion was full bright color. In 1998, the Platinum Medallion was full black and white. In 1999, as seen here, the Platinum Medallion was a color photo of the player against a black and white background.

I hear you. I am devastated. I missed the Larkin by $10. I made a bid I thought was significantly higher than it would go for and another snipe at the same time barely beat me. It's my #1 want and I blew it by underestimating where it would end. I didn't think it would get anywhere close to $5100.

Wait wait wait.....the Bagwell Red is a ~$4k card and the Larkin Red is a $5k card?

BRB. Going to go throw up while I think about the Frank I passed on years ago at $1700 because it had a refractor line

Tell me about it. I thought the Larkin would end around $2500-3000. It even had edge/surface damage at the top. I was shocked. I would have thrown out a bigger bid. I couldn't bid $1,000,000 so I threw out a "mega bid" to guarantee I won. I severely underestimated my mega bid.

Did they beat you by $10, or potentially $1,000? Could you tell it was really that close, or perhaps they out mega-bid your mega-bid with a substantially higher mega-bid?

Regardless of the miss, you're crushing it.

I believe the bid increment at that price is more than $10 (it was going up $25 per bid earlier in the auction). So the fact that the final price was just $10 more than my max tells me that was the winner's max. Had I bid $5111.01 instead of $5101, I win the auction. It was quite the gut punch because that card may not show up for sale for years (and it was jersey # 11/25).

I'm a collector. With all due respect, what you think the market should be doesn't affect what I'm willing to pay for my favorite card of all time that has come up for auction once in the last decade. But thanks for your concern.

Hope a few more come out of the woodwork for you after that sale!!

Yeah that’s the first one that has popped up in 10 years, lost the same exact card 10 years ago with the second highest bid at $1,300. Didn’t think it would get super high cause it wasn’t in the best of condition but it did. And I wasn’t willing to go any higher cause it’s the call for arms and to me those just don’t look as nice as the other crusades. But it is the last 90’s Bagwell I really want.

Thanks. I had the same thought that maybe seeing how strong this sale was might coax a few more out of collections to market.

I hope you get another shot. Have you ever seen the protoype version that isn't the Call to Arms? If you can track that down it might be more your speed.

That said, Larkin is also a Call to Arms. And I have all 3 of the non-CTA prototypes and think the CTA look WAAAY better than the base versions. I guess it's personal taste, but man those CTAs are shiny.

The greens are the prettiest to me, so here are the two green versions. Nothing is prettier to me than a green call to arms.

Thanks I’m sure I’ll get another shot at it one day. May have to wait another 10 years but the hunt is the part that’s the most fun lol.

Yeah I did see it a long time ago but didn’t even try for it since it wasn’t pack pulled. I do like the green better than the red, just seems to pop better.
