They are the best, especially when you pull them yourself.

Huh? Why? If they're set up at a show and have a card I want at the right price, then what's the difference?

I’m thinking you’re a minor yourself, that’s OK.

Nope I'm an adult. What am I missing?

You're walking around at a show, there's a kid set up behind a table, there's a card you want/need on their table. You're not stopping?

I always thought there was some law that allows a minor to always get their money back if they purchased something and vice versa.

IANAL but my understanding is that minors lack the legal capacity to enter binding contracts in a lot of circumstances that could potentially cover sports cards.

How did the kid get a business license to sell?

You need a business license to set up at a show? Do most show organizers require that? (never set up, genuinely asking).

Had one dealer ponder for 25 minutes over a card I was selling. I was priced at $90 firm, last two sales were yesterday for $114 and $128, and the guy was offering $70. After 25 minutes, he called his buddy over who told him to make the deal and he did.

The buddy, then looked at my cards and pulled two out. One I said $170 was my best number and I turned down $175 on ebay twice in the last week. He then offered me $150 and kept saying, "Come on man, give me a deal". He then pulled out a second card and asked a price. I told him $450. He responded, "come on man, what's the absolute best?" I told him $430 would be my absolute best, and he proceeded to tell me all the things wrong with the card and that he needs a deal to make money. I said, "I am firm at $430", and he said he was at $325. I told him no thanks and starting packing my cards up, and he said again, "Come on man, cut me a deal, what's the rest actual best you can do? It's a hard card to move and I need to make money." I ended up selling the card 20 minutes later for significantly more than my initial $450 number.
I've noticed that sometimes when people say they priced to comp they actually are pricing to the "Buy it Now" comps on Ebay, not the sold price. Was looking at a specific card at a show a month or so ago and was told its worth $300 dollars. The card wasnt worth $300 dollars, the seller was just selling it for a "Buy it Now" price from ebay.

There are certainly a number of kids and young adults wheeling at dealing at shows. At least trying to ... I'm not sure they understand simple business. Most are very pleasant to work with and a small few aren't lol

In my experience the kids do laps around the show trying to trade cards from one dealer to another. They're little trade sharks for the most part.

Went to the Orland Park show this past Sunday. It was my bday and my godson and his folks were in town to visit. It was my 9y/o godson's first card show and he had a lot of fun looking at Pokemon cards and visiting vendors. I didn't see my Frank Thomas guy this time but I picked up a small handful of cards for some good deals. I'll post them in the pickups thread. Show was well attended as always, as has been my experience. The report I got was that everyone was very friendly. My godson was even gifted a Joe Montana card, which was very nice of someone, although I don't know what his evolutions are or if he'd stand a chance against Charizard.

Charizard is weak vs. Hail Mary, so Joe has a good chance.

In California if you sell more than 3 times a year at a specific location "swap meet" then you need a resale license.

I am surprised for a lot of monthly/quartley shows they do not require it. For the Big Shows you would think the state's would require especially for convention venues.

You should have business license and reseller license to setup at legit card shows. If you are a promoter and dont ask for those items from dealers you could get in big trouble with state that you are in. If you setup at show in x state you need to file a sales tax return for your sales in that state unless you get a resell certificate from buyer. Im shocked that more states that are broke dont crack down on these shows given how often they audit business for sales & use tax. There is so much unreported sales going on at a show that state dont get any part of that action. This is why ebay had to do this years ago and file sales taxes for all of your sales unless buyer provided ebay with reseller certificate. I wonder sometimes with all these big dealers that setup across the country if they actually file sales tax returns by state.

Chantilly and Philly dealer contracts mandate that you have a VA and PA tax certificates

Is it enforced? No idea

fun show overall!

nothing Brady centric. I saw some raw press pass rookies and some low grade skybox rookies. Nothing of note. I was looking for some basketball, but not having much luck
