It’s always been a clusterf*ck for MC memberships with the public signing up period. Last year may have been different with the $300 price tag, but years prior when I tried to sign up for my 1st account Topps site crashes, can’t get through, finally do and payment processing goes into spinning loading wheel of death because too many trying to sign up for their 10th, 20th and 30th accounts.

I would take what is in writing over "what I was told over the phone". The cancellation emails state they cannot sign up for a new membership, and others have received written responses from Topps confirming that when they reached out to ask/confirm.

As for the assumption that them opening it for 2 days is a wild change that will result in unlimited memberships - perhaps they extended it to counter what people have reported for years when they have tried to sign up on the single day....site timeouts, errors, payment processing problems, etc. If you lengthen the window for sign up, it will reduce the strain on the site and allow more people to get through. They could still have a limit they are not disclosing, or maybe its a free for all now...we will soon see.

Topps/Fanatics has been very open and specific that they want to expand the hobby to new people. This is one way they can do that by allowing more people to sign up for this type of club, and institute strict restrictions to try and stop the multiple account resellers who grossly inflate the cost of pretty much every release Topps comes out with. Just look at ebay on a pre/new release and the tons of "Montgomery Club Confirmed Order" listings for the product at 2-3x the MSRP with quantities of 20-xxxx listed. How is that helping the hobby expand? Yes, the (not new, but enforced) restriction on 1 account per household will negatively impact some members who did not use it to resell but thats up to topps if they want to change their stance on this first enforcement phase.

Yes, MC will be open to more people....not sure why some view that as such a threat.

Anyone see the MLB store free pack with jersey offering? Are these exclusive to them or can you get packs at fanatics? Anyone have more details?

I've never seen a company willingly choose to alienate its most loyal consumers. Regardless of whether you support it, the move is incredibly suspect and calls into question the quality of managerial decision-making. I'd love to know who made it - how senior was this person?

It's the same packs that were given away at select MLB stadiums this year when you spent $150+ on MLBPA licensed gear. They probably took in all the extras from citi field and yankee stadium I'd assume. Had gotten two of them in the summer and they seem to be one numbered card per pack. 50 card checklist. Here's the checklist/info on them:

I actually think it’s a good thing also.... I just think they are trying to make quick money and give new accounts to anyone who wants them it’s an easy 200 a pop

I know I'm not renewing, I'm eligible as a one account person, but I have only bought 1 product from Topps since April of this year (Star Wars because it was an obvious flip) and have passed on every drop since then.

Overpriced most of the time, just lost too much hobby interest this year with the continued inflated prices on stuff. Just not for me anymore.

If they cap it that high, unless they massively increase the print runs, there won't be enough boxes for all members to get one of the products they're promising. This is Topps, so anything is possible but it's hard to imagine they haven't thought of that and the problems it would cause.

If this was just released today, Beckett must have guessed at the checklist based on past years. I saw Luke Voit Yankees card #445 the other day listed on Beckett was began doing a search on E-bay to find one to buy.

TC Sapphire has always included 1 auto and 1 parallel per box since 2019. One reason it cost so much the past couple of years.

Hopeful but even at $50 it is 32 cards from a 660 card checklist with one parallel. Still a gamble but at least it is more palatable.

I was thinking about this last night. Here are the previous print runs for the boxes that have early access in '23:

2021 Bowman Chrome Sapphire : 20,625 boxes (looks like this year membership will get access to 2022?)

2021 Topps Chrome Sapphire: 25,000 boxes (2022 should be coming soon)

2022 Star Wars Sapphire: 15,500 boxes

2022 Bundesliga: 26,000 boxes

2022 Finest Flashback: 14,300 boxes

2021 GPK: 21,300 boxes (who's getting 2022?)

So the one box per membership assuming PR's don't change much would limit the number of memberships to under 20K. Unless topps wanted to create demand shortages. If 20K people had to fight over 15K boxes of flashbacks, that would make your one box worth a little something on the secondary market, since a lot of those boxes would be going to collectors who would be ripping them.

Also, this then looks like the 2022 membership should be getting quite a few more offerings. (22 GPK, 22 TCS, 22 BCS, 22 Draft Sap, 22 snapshots, 22 brooklyn)
