I used to go to dodger games during college when i was at ucla and the money some of these fans had to throw around was nuts. Especially the middle age to older folks. The silent auctions were often downright hilarious for some of those memorabilia items. Most of this fan base isn't "investing" - they're buying from nostalgic emotion or because it makes a nice conversation piece in the office. Each market works differently. When I lived in Oakland, Donaldson could've hit .400 and his cards wouldn't have moved a tick.

32 K's via breaking balls this postseason. Unreal.

you started a few threads asking about future monetary values

nothing wrong with any of that, but id recommend buying what bring you joy first, and if "monetary value" follows, thats a bonus

I’m going to say that kershaws cards in the long run will hold the most value over any current dodger, especially if he gets his ring.

Kershaw has the spotlight and if he does well and gets a championship, he cements his HOF status and the fair weathered Dodgers fans will relish in his performance while eating up his cards and paying a temporary premium to drive rates up for the short term which will eventually retreat back a bit. He's a great investment at the right price and a long term hold. I'm not sure if he's in the realm of a Nolan Ryan or Sandy Koufax. He's like a Steve Carlton, someone who's remembered when reminded but easily forgotten once out of sight out of mind in later retirement.

Steve Carlton is considered one of the best left handed pitchers of all time ... also I think Kershaws numbers already put him at like 3rd best lefty all time. He’s pretty much a lock to be greatest dodger pitcher ever and he could still pitch another 5-8 yrs just racking up numbers and records.

Eeeeck...he's great no doubt but I don't see him surpassing Sandy Koufax (4× World Series champion (1955, 1959, 1963, 1965)....

Hell, if the Dodgers somehow blow the World Series....in most Dodger's fans minds he'd still be behind Fernando and Hershiser only because of their World Series performances and the importance of them.

No doubt that being a Dodger helps a player's card prices vs a small team, but the affect is vastly overestimated by most on here.

I know ... it was hard to type. I meant more from a numbers perspective really. Although I would say that kershaw has faced better talent than Koufax ..and probably should be working his way to his second ring if not for the Houston asterisks.

Yes, the Dodgers won the WS in 1955, but Koufax never pitched. Statistically, that doesn't count.

I also hesitate comparing players from different eras. There was one series back then - The World Series. I'm not saying what is easier/harder but it's an apples to oranges comparison. Everything is different about pitching then vs. now - literally everything. Koufax was great during that era and Kershaw was great during his.

And numerous almost unbreakable postseason records, NLCS and WS MVPs, Silver Sluggers, etc., etc., and the reputation as one of the greatest World Series pitchers in history.

Lol. I hope this isn't serious. Mays, Clemente, Musial, Aaron plus Mantle in the World Series. Look up what Mantle said to John Roseboro during his first at bat vs Koufax.

Lol what. Sandy Koufax is the greatest Lefty though some argue Lefty Grove or Randy Johnson. Carlton isn't even top 5 but Kershaw is.
