pass on both...at this point, Shore and Ermsy are the only two worth taking a look at for me.

Totally fair opinion. I think there is something great in the Vides cards, but it’s not quite executed well enough to come through. It’s not quite coming out in the Photoshop efforts either, but you can tell it’s there from the extremely small tweaks being made on them and the general reaction to those. If Vides had maybe forced the cards more in to his art rather than the opposite, maybe we’d see something more people gravitated towards. I still think the Doc card looks amazing, but yeah it’s just not quite coming together for me personally as its result is too reliant on the natural contrast within the original card.

I think my favorite way to display is 2 artist, 2 player (with the same players next to each other for different artists). See the pattern below.

Interesting to see how far I've come along in my representative artists set. Wondering if I'll be done before card 300
Looks like I have 11 of 20. So I guess its pretty close to on pace. I had created this list after each artist had about 3 cards out (minus Don C) Andrew Thiele - Want to get the 1983 Tony Gwynn Ben Baller - Want to get the 1954 Ted Williams Blake Jamieson - 2011 Topps Mike Trout Don C -Want the 1955 Robert Clemente Ermsy - 2001 Topps Ichiro Efdot - 1985 Topps Dwight Gooden Fucci - Want to get the 1992 Bowman Mariano Rivera Gregory Siff - 1982 Topps Cal Ripken Grotesk - Want the get the 1952 Topps Jackie Robinson Jacob Rochester - .Want to get the 1984 Topps Don Mattingly JK5 - .Want to get the 1989 Topps Ken Griffey Jr Joshua Vides - .1955 Topps Sandy Koufax Keith Shore - .1990 Frank Thomas King Saladeen - .1993 Topps Derek Jeter Matt Taylor - .1980 Rickey Henderson Mister Cartoon - .Want to get the 1959 Topps Bob Gibson Naturel - .1975 Topps George Brett Oldmanalan – want to get the 1952 willie mays Sophia Chang 1969 Nolan Ryan Tyson Beck - Want to get the 1987 Topps Mark McGwire Still on track for my artist runs of Siff, Grotesk, Chang, Jamieson and Don C as well as Jackie Robinson player run too Last edited by kevbojones; 07-20-2020 at 01:37 PM. |

i also think a good portion of ones opinion is where said person "comes from" when approaching a card. let me try to make that clearer... i have been collecting cards for 40 years now. ive seen highs, ive seen lows, and everything in between. ive seen Topps Heritage basically reprint "vintage" topps designs using todays players with yesterdays designs (starting with 1952 Topps in 2001 and continuing annually 1953 in 2002, etc) i guess thats why (L)OLDMANALAN does nothing for me. there's nothing "wrong" with his cards, but the cards he releases dont warrant the $20 SRP price tag. They'd look just fine in the 25 cent to $1 range like other "throwback sets". Archives comes to mind. if someone were coming to P2020 from never have collected baseball cards, or had not collected them in decades, then i could see why they'd like them

So put your little hand in mine!!!!!!!
So according to the movie, we will be here until we help others. I posted some links, gave out some info...I guess I gotta start giving away cards or buying extra to sell at MSRP? |

I love the hat on Vides' Willie! It's up there with Vides' Mariano's wall and Vides' Gooden's clouds on the short list of great Vides details.
I agree with AirplaneDon that a white background isn't the answer. I think the problem is that baseball cards are too small. Gooden is the best card for him: it's not a pure portrait like the cards from the '50s, but the background isn't too dark or busy. I'm curious to see what he does with his George Brett since that has a similar background to the Gooden, but I'm afraid he won't be able to emphasize any of the details and will just draw lines in the grass. |

Has anyone else's cards #83-84 been stuck in shipping limbo? I got the label creation notification on June 25th and nothing has happened since.
I've gotten three cards printed after those already. |

got my fannies in and honestly these are awesome - not the 2k we expected but three blake autographs in each. I received a really cool Mookie signed card, ozzie smith signed, and Gerritt Cole signed Yankees Series 1. Really fun to rummage through

And yeah, Oldmanalan is not for me, ironically for some of the same reasons despite being away from cards for 20ish years. I genuinely like some of his cards, and some in particular exude this sense of calm, but relative to most of the other cards in the set they don't do much for me. That said his aesthetic is very different from the other 19 artists, so it likely finds a appreciative home somewhere. |
