That is a lot of playoff teams and teams fighting for seeding for the LeBronless Lakers to battle through. If they make it into the play-in spots, they will have pulled off a massive feat, especially if Russell is out for any extended time with his ankle.

They have a positive net rating with AD on the floor this season without LeKang. New gang is capable of playing defense and can actually make some shots. I wouldn't say playoff spot is a lock but I like their chances. They can't lose any ground in the next two weeks.

Like rhigh2390 said, a lot of the teams in the play in bracket aren't exactly sizzling hot right now either. Pelicans continue to slide, Minnesota aren't looking like world beaters, Ky and Luka are still getting acclimated etc.

What a freaking block by AD on that drive by Ja. There’s only one other player in the league who can realistically block a shot like that, and lucky for Ja, it’s his DPOY-favorite teammate. I know it’s only been 24 minutes so far and this is probably an overreaction to that, but it might not be the craziest thing in the world for the Lakers to play well enough to make the play-in and hopefully have a healthy LeBron by then. Their remaining schedule is relatively easy, but they’re still gonna need some help from at least 2 of the following 4 teams: Jazz, Wolves, Pelicans, Blazers. Lakers are 12th and those are the teams directly ahead of them. Hmm…after typing that out, that is not gonna be easy to do.

As someone noted, that is championship final level defense down the stretch.

As for why my guy starting: "The real turning point was an odd challenge from Jason Kidd. Just over three minutes into the quarter, the officials called an offensive foul and Luka, but it was overturned to a defensive foul on Nesmith that sent him to the bench because it was his fourth foul. Dallas would immediately go on a 11-3 run to retake the lead 79-78."
