i think its a few things actually.

as a collector:

it feels great "to be right" (naturally nobody is right all the time)

it also feels great to pick up cards that one feels are "under appreciated"

as for this particular card, the average cost was in the $50 area (or two Flagship Blasters). Thats just too silly to not pick up.

Then you add in the distribution method for Topps Purples (not to be confused with Topps CHROME Purples which are easy to find) which were/are generally One Card per Meijer (started with Toys R Us before they folded) Blister (not Blaster) which contain 1 (some years two) pack placed directly ON the raw Purple card and then the blister is sealed to the backing cardboard.

Guess I will post my latest pickups. Topps Mini mullet SP and Topps Mini auto redemption. Card arrived yesterday. Got them in a trade at a card show a couple weeks ago.

It also helps that the logofractor SP has no other parallels or image variations and is from the first release of that product.

Logofractor SP - 108 cards graded by PSA (56 PSA 9's and 43 PSA 10's)

US100 SP (Mullet) - 954 cards graded by PSA (149 PSA 9's and 774 PSA 10's) this card is not that rare

US100 SSP - 129 cards graded by PSA (23 PSA 9's and 100 PSA 10's)

You are absolutely correct in that the ‘Mullet’ is not rare, the question becomes is that particular card “iconic.” There are so many rookies produced today vs yesteryear but which is the one to own for the long-term?

Is the ssp known as warmup shirt holding bat?

Yes the SSP is the warmup shirt holding bat. It makes me wish they could swap the print runs of the SP (mullet) and the SSP (warmup shirt w bat). That would make the mullet card a little more desirable for me as a collector looking for a combination of eye appeal and rarity.

And I think "iconic" cards are kind of subjective especially with stuff that's only been out for 3ish years. What if he gets a more iconic haircut than a mullet? Will his newer cooler haircut affect the value of cards with his old haircut?

Yes, I know the images of the sp and ssp. I guess my point is I believe “Mullet” to likely be the iconic Bobby rookie card down the road.

Think 52 Mantle (not true rookie )
89 UD Griffey
11’ US175 Trout, base
Etc.

And I realize the majority of ya on this thread know an encyclopedia more of knowledge than I do with the Hobby.

This all resonates with me and I think helps to explain my somewhat obsessive tendencies with certain cards. Right now for me it’s Hunter Greene Flagship RCs - mostly Gold and Black. While I already have plenty, they seem too cheap not to buy more. In fact, this post inspired me to snag another Meijer Purple on comc. Thanks ThoseBackPages!

It was a good mail day. I'm pleasantly surprised at how quickly the redemption was turned around.
