As a collector, one thing I prize is the blue autograph. In 2016 and 2017, for some unbeknownst reason, Panini decided to have players sign most of their cards in black ink. Now, black ink has been used sparingly throughout the years by different companies and in different products, but the 2016-17 years had an onslaught of them. I much prefer blue, and believe it's something to think about as a collector/investor of a high-value card. Some folks aren't bothered by black ink, but for me, it's not as aesthetically pleasing as a blue ink auto.

Most of Mahomes rookie autos are in black ink right?

I’d guess players at this point in the season are mostly concerned with getting in position to make a playoff run. MVP is just for speculation at this juncture with over half the season remaining.

It is unfortunate that there are a few posters in this thread that try to tear down just about any reason that the Chiefs/Mahomes succeed. Jhj has basically devolved into a second-rate delta troll account. Whatever. Not worth spending a lot of time on. Opinions are just that, opinions.

As you mentioned earlier, the next six weeks or so will probably tell the tale as far as playoff position. We’ll know a lot more by then. As rough as they started, it’s been great to see them pull out of it. Definitely great to see a healthy lineup for the first time in over a year. Injuries are the great unknown that can make a huge difference in any team’s season.

AFC is kind of opening itself up for the Chiefs. The two biggest preseason favorites (Bills and Ravens) have slipped. Chargers are injury riddled. Ravens are all but out. I do expect the Bills to be there in the end. The current division leaders - Pats, Steelers, Colts, Broncos - don't feel like contenders at all. Colts are going to have a great record, but I can see Jones under performing in the playoffs against a team like the Chiefs. I don't think Steelers, Broncos and Pats are good enough to win a playoff game.

I would expect the Chiefs to be favored in just about any match up.

At this point, any Chiefs fan hitting the panic button about the Bills would be quite the hypocrite. Plus they play each other in 2 weeks, in Buffalo, with the Bills having a 1 day rest advantage. All the Bills would need to do is pull out a win, and suddenly they'd be everyone's Super Bowl favorite again.

Anyway, back to cards. Many Mahomes rookies are in black ink. I know some stickers are in blue ink but not many in card autos are in blue ink

So many folks saying “chiefs just beat raiders, settle down”….it was an epic beat down …plus these folks trying to act like chiefs didn’t Bully both the ravens and lions ..people always moving the goal post…after chiefs best bills/colts, it’s going to be another team chiefs need to beat..

With the nba gambling arrests are chiefs fans worried about the nfl refs laying low for the rest of the year?

Who cares...

let me know when another QB playing today has 3 Super Bowl MVPs in his 20s.

Until then, they can just enjoy being miserable.

Default Patrick Mahomes Prices

When Brady was playing I hated watching him because he was beating everyone. Then when he went to Tampa I started to appreciate the greatness. He retired two seasons after that.

I’m not making the same mistake with Mahomes. There is a going to be a point when he retires and we look back and realized we should have enjoyed it more. 5 Super Bowl appearances and 3 wins is a wild stat only rivaled by Brady and Montana

If Mahomes goes to another team and wins a sb I’ll appreciate his greatness.

If he gets to hand select his team and do it during another pandemic, definitely the goat!

I’ll even widen the goalposts. He can end with 5 Super Bowl rings with one of the 5 rings won with another team. Does that and he’s the GOAT.

See I’m a nice guy!

Stars n stripes bgs 8.5 sold for 138k
Nt /99 sold for 72k
Red power Prizm bgs 9.5 sold for a whopping 54k….massive sale, I predicted much less

There was a white box 1/1 NT gold RPA that sold for 78k…big sale considering white box

Wow.. $54k on the Red Power?

I had to check the print run on those: 49 copies. That's gotta be, what, his 9th most sought after Prizm parallel?

-Finite
-Gold
-Gold Vinyl
-Red Retail
-Blue Retail
-White Sparkle
-Camo
-Bronze Stars.

The market makes absolute zero sense to me, but I'm just a small fish compared to 50k cards so who cares what I think.

The S&S RPA is massively undervalued compared to the other sales imo. That's my favorite RPA all time. The /99 NT being approached by a Red power in price is utter madness. And the white box outselling the true rookie RPA is again wild. I can't imagine true card collectors valueing a white box that high. But it's their money so..

I agree, white box is basically a glorified reprint…I would have valued at around 40k or less. It is insane how a red power is close to a RPA /99. That being said, I’m not a big fan of SnS RPA…the acetate surface , the design is too much for me..call me old school

It's probably okay to bunch all of those parallels together and call them a matter of preference.

The Retail Red is such an interesting card because it's so rare, yet some people won't realize it because of the lack of numbering.

There's probably about 20 Reds made. If we do a PSA pop comparison:

Retail Red: 13 (6 10s)
White Sparkle: 17 (5 10s)
Camo: 17 (6 10s)
Golds: 5 (3 10s)
Gold Vinyl: 2 (2 10s)

What's interesting is that only 8 Blues have ever been graded, and there are 0 PSA 10s.

My guess is that on these lower numbered cards, around 50%-70 of the population has been graded at PSA. That would mean about 20-25 Reds and 15-20 Blues.

Anybody remember these numbers getting confirmed?

Of the rafted rookie holo parallels (non auto), what’s the next parallel after red and yellow combo? I’m trying to find others but having no luck. The red and yellow one looks tempting because it’s a KC color match. But if there is something a bit better for both that much more I’ll look into that as well

My only gripe with the “power” (such a funny word) is they changed it to purple power in 2019 and onwards. Just zero consistency…

2012 - n/a
2013 - n/a
2014 - Red Power #/125
2015 - n/a
2016 - n/a (Green Power #/49)
2017 - Red Power #/49
2018 (and onwards) - Purple Power #/49

Good thing about mahomes is his cards are not all diluted with tons of parallels like the new rookies
