About to lock in a case. What's the consensus? If I'm doing just 1 case, hobby or jumbo?

I'm rolling the dice with a jumbo case. I feel like this is going to be a big year for series 1 jumbos

Not sure why but I'm very excited for this release. Maybe it's just been a while since I sorted 20+ base sets, but something is causing it.

On another note, I was reading the sell sheet again to prep an odds breakdown sheet and notice the gold foil parallel was listed for both hobby and jumbo. Did that change since it was first posted?

"Gold foil will be hobby and jumbo only as will be Black parallels, while Clears will only be found in hobby packs."

The sell sheet says jumbo only, but maybe they changed it

Source?

I see "hobby jumbo only" on the sheet linked from BO pages. Hobby is referred to as "hobby" and jumbo is referred to as "hobby jumbo". Probably to differentiate from the retail "fat packs" that sometimes get called jumbo packs.

From the OP in the thread, click that link and it will say gold foils are in hobby and jumbo. I think it's a mistake though.

I see. Might be a write-up / interpretation of the sell sheet, if that sheet was available at the same time? Hopefully the gold foil is jumbo only.

A competitor site doesn't even list the gold foils on their sell sheet.

Hobby boxes are showing as OUT OF STOCK on the site, but cases are still available and the same price.

as always- Topps will keep em guessing until release day
conflicting content adds
mysterious new insert ratios across all formats
incorrect sell sheets about what can be found in what format
its like a whole new category of speculation that has nothing to do with the checklist every release

Well one thing is certain, this is the first time a Series 1 release has generated this much buzz, regardless of what Topps is doing correctly.

Mostly thanks to 18 Update and 19 Series 2. Topps won't allow this to be a dud.

All because of the rookie class. This would also be a dud were it not for that. Topps isn't allowing anything lol.

2019 Heritage was a bust - but 2017 and 2018 heritage and 18 HHN were great. Why? Rookie classes. Momentum means nothing.

Agreed it's going to be at least good and possibly spectacular for those breaking qty at early pricing. There's enough strong RC content I may even bust a hobby or jumbo box for s&gs.

I mean, yes, Rookie class will drive every release unless its a super high end product or NT where you could get 100,000 dollar Cobb and Ruth duel

Topps sell sheet doesn’t have the incorrect information. It’s right on the sell sheet. Blowout/competitors are the ones that have had mistakes.

Hobby case up from $659.95 to $679.95.
Boxes still $57.95.

There certainly are too many RC flippers driving price increases, but this is reinforced by incessant marketing campaigns by hobby institutions who like it that way...too bad there aren’t more marketing campaigns that emphasize set or team collecting.

The differential between 2019 Update and 2020 S1 is still too great IMO.

The fact ‘19 update is selling for any premium is just silly... I check it’s prices occasionally, and think

This current market is silly

Besides Alvarez who are the other possible big rookie hits? Might get a few but putting my $$ on 2020 Bowman and Heritage.

Lux and Alvarez.

Curious how collectors rank those three guys... interesting to consider. So as I don't seem like a knowledge suck, I'd say:

Alvarez - Thought the cheating scandal could hurt. But he hit bombs in the minors. Plus already ROY.
Lux - Top 5 prospect.
Bichette - How about 25 bolts, 100 runs scored, 80 RBI, and 25 SBs. 25/25???

You’re not wrong that those will be big, but at $600 a case, very hard to lose money on series 1.

If done correctly, but most don't put in the time....which actually works out for 'seasoned' breakers...
