Default Lebron Going Forward

Does anyone think there will be increased hobby interest in Lebron going forward as we near his retirement?

Is a major trade and more titles the only the only way that Lebron has a less divided opinion on his career as #2 to Jordan?

I think at this point his legacy is pretty much set as it is and there will always be that discussion. When he retires and the years that follow, he is still going to very much be in the public eye. Maybe one of his sons has a better career than we think they will… but what usually happens with players like him is as time goes on and we get further removed from his playing days, we always get to a point where we wish we would have appreciated him more and generally grow to like him more.

My opinion of him will never change. Unfortunately he chose to be a polarizing figure on and off the court.

Who cares? He opened up a school. Does a bunch of good things in the community. Lebron isn't the first great athlete that was polarizing off the court.

Lebron stuff has seen it’s peak.

He would need to pass jordan in rings to get any more attention in price. That’s not going to happen with the circus show he brings to every franchise he joins.

Bron bois thinking his cards will get a boost when he gets indicted to the HOF - that’s already been priced in long ago.

Kids who wanted to buy Bron cards when they grew up have already grown up and had their chance - no more interest from the younger generation z - they just think he’s a really bad actor - both on the court and on the screen.

He has quite a few cringe moments on and off the court, but cringe doesn't mean "really bad actor." (On screen, maybe.)

I don't see Bron delivering any surprises in his last few seasons. The competition around the NBA looks too tough for he and an unreliable AD to make any serious title runs. (If he goes to back to CLE for a title run, he won't be the top gun on his team.)

Nonetheless, his card values could be affected by changing perceptions of his legacy over time. There probably won't be a 'Last Dance' documentary exactly, as the narrative arc there was a single team's growth from bottom-3 to 6-time champs. But Bron's career is spectacular enough for there to be at least one interesting documentary.

His legacy is what it is. I’m sure there will be increased interest around retirement but I don’t see a big swing.

As noted he is terribly polarizing and most people are already in a camp.

When Jordan retired, the game of basketball was in good hands with Kobe. When Kobe retired, the game turned into sh!t with Lebron. I used to love Lebron and I'm pretty sure most of you guys loved Lebron too in his early career when he played hard and just played ball. His ego has gone over his head and it shows it all the time now that's why I can't stand him.

This nearly brought a tear to my eye with how accurate it is. I remember those days and the feel of the sport.

Those days are simply gone.

The real fondness and hobby love for LeBron will be after he is gone from the game and children who worshipped him are grown and have money. That’s when he will be valued the most and his career will be romanticized. This is how nostalgia works. Anyone who has been in this game for more than a minute knows this is true.

Many of us are already that grown up kid. The question is how many kids today are fans of Lakers LeBron that will miss that version when he’s done.

As a die hard Kobe fan I can't stand Lebron playing for the Lakers. With that being said if he joined Steph in GST or Durant in Brooklyn and had a few more run ins with the Celtics, I couldn't help but cheer for him for nostalgic purposes.

Its Luka's league right now with Wemby set to join the conversation... I can't help thinking that a Lebron that is a little humbler and not a Laker would be a fun couple years

If you say so. I own little LeBron, so I have no real dog in the fight. But I’ve been around long enough to see history repeat itself, and then repeat itself again, so we can just wait and see. It’s always the same.

It's not about history repeating itself or not. LeBrons prime years, those kids already graduated and are into their professional careers.

The "kids" you're talking about are going to be buying Ja, Luka, Zion... etc this generations superstars

I never watched Wilt or Bill Russell play as a kid (they were way before my time) but I still buy their cards!

Lebron like any great in any sport who is at the end if his career will not see a price increase unless then win more titles or MVP's. Players like LeBron won't see a price increase for the HOF because it's a lock he's going to be in. Only thing at this point I could see that would effect his cards is if he does or says something so polarizing off the court that it would be negative on him that would cause his cards to lose money.

Right now he will only sell tickets.

His cards wont increase in price. Just the regular bump in price the 2-3 days after HOF , then it will get back to normal

New generation of collectors want the young guys like morant, zion, luka etc.

*Lebron wont get another chance at at title unless he gets traded to a powerful defensive team
