She should get a spot because:

1) she’s clearly good enough

2) she’s the only thing that’s giving the WNBA any shred of relevance

Clark has brought some real new fans to the WNBA, which is awesome. What she has also brought is another opportunity for the same people who have been hating on women’s sports for years to hate on women’s sports some more.

These people are easy to spot. They’re the ones that first claimed Clark was going to come in and dominate the league because of how weak they claimed it was. When anyone who was paying attention knew she would have some good games and would also face the challenges all rookies do in professional sports.

Then when it became obvious she wouldn’t dominate right away, they went on to the asinine argument that for the good of the league, the other W players should just let her score more and let her win. It’s an argument that no one would ever make in a men’s sport, and it’s rooted in the fact that these people who have hated on women’s sports for years have always believed that women aren’t actually competitive athletes. And now they can’t reconcile their world view with what is actually happening.

Now we’ve landed on the argument that Clark should be handed a position on the national team, even though she isn’t as good as the best players who did make the team. She’s not even close to being the best player left off the team. Again this is rooted in not thinking of women’s sports as real sports, because nowhere on the men’s side will you see these same people arguing for inferior male athletes to be placed on the national team over better athletes.

It’s consistently disrespectful to women’s sports, and it’s consistently disrespectful to Caitlin Clark as a competitive athlete. The argument being made is that we need to hand things to her and make her path easier. Clark doesn’t want things to be handed to her that she hasn’t earned, and her supposed fans shouldn’t want that for her either if they truly support her.

This is well said and is why she shouldn’t make the Olympic team. There will be time for that as she grows into a better player.

By the way, the person you replied to isn’t worth the effort. I highly recommend blocking him. It makes the blowout experience much better.

So...you go from 1 of my posts...where I specifically targeted Griner...and because I said him several times in reference (like several millions of people have said before in reference to her looks) because I don't like the person- due to their actions and pity me crap...

You make the logical jump to I hate all womens sports??

Im talking strictly about the Womens team. I know the mens team has usually had at least one college senior but that was just a nod to before NBA players were allowed to compete internationally for Team USA.

Of WNBA or other women's sports? Because I made 1 petty offhanded comment about 1 player in particular? Seems a bit broad generalization when you got people talking about buying panties and making people sandwiches etc..
