Yeah, he's not out of contention or anything.

it was one of those oh he gets the Rockies at home? He'll give up a run or less and punch out 11+type thoughts going in

in the NL Rodon won't win but he is going to be a very rich man come wintertime.

He raised his era and whip. He needed to maintain the era and lower his whip in my opinion. Struggled to get through 5. He was not sharp with the slider at all, and the batters were patient.
With the other 2 coming back I felt like he needed a statement start here. With his whip being so much worse, I don’t think he can have less wins and a higher era and win. Leading in K’s isn’t going to do it.

He's on a 2-year deal, but it won't surprise me one bit if he gets a big extension. He's basically proven that all those injuries are in the past.

He has an opt out. Imagine he takes advantage and gets paid like a top 10 pitcher.

If nothing weird happens between now and the end of the season, Rodon will definitely opt out.

As for Cease, he lost the lead (if he had it) but he's certainly not out of it.

If Bieber keeps rolling and Cleveland keeps the White Sox out of the playoffs, does Bieber work his way into the conversation? I feel like Manoah and Gausman could take some votes from each other.

Doubt it, he’s not in the top 5 of any significant categories. Plus the Guardians winning the Central division is not that impressive. If he was on the Yankees or Astros…maybe

I think its Verlander/Cease essentially tied....... a decent sized margin Shane mclanahan and Valdez... then another gap ......then Manoah..... but besides pitching a few more innings than Cease, what argument could be made for Manoah to win it over Cease or Verlander? Unless they both end the season with a few 6er games and Manoah cruises, I couldn't imagine it being anyone other than Cease or Verlander.

I would imagine Beiber is out of the race being a point higher than Verlander in ERA.

Is there any real chance that anyone other than cease or verlander can win the AL CY?

I’d imagine Verlander gets 2/3 of the 1st place votes as it sits today

I know Ohtani still has some work to do to qualify in IP, but if he does do yall think he'll get some down ballot votes at least? It'd be cool if he was at least in the conversation for both MVP and Cy Young consideration as he's never pitched enough and well enough before for that to occur.

Verlander is clearly ahead now and last I checked should be returning this weekend.

Yes, on novelty alone Ohtani will pick up a few top-6 votes.

Such a fun race this year in both leagues. Glad to see Shane come back strong yesterday although he is likely out of the race. I hope he at least finishes second.

It's not over in the AL.

But it's close.

We're at that "it's over barring something surprising" stage

Oh yeah- it’s Verlander’s to lose and has been for the last 6-8 weeks. I’m just glad that mostly everyone outside of Gonsolin is healthy so we get to see it finished out with all of the top guys hitting the minimum for innings on qualifications.

Nor is Ohtani on the AL side, but it's Verlanders to lose at this point. NL side gets interesting if Sandy continues to falter.

After today urias will likely have pitched 50 Innings less than sandy…. That’s big!

I think verlander has it pretty much wrapped… but how about mclanahan and cease in addition to ohtani (mentioned above) …. What argument could be made for ohtani over any of those 3 for cy (his hitting does not go into this discussion…. Pitchers win mvp but hitters do not win the cy)

Framber Valdez records his 25th consecutive quality start, a new MLB single-season record.
