Sorry, I find the "pull yourself up by your bootstraps" crowd to be insufferable. It is simplifying an extraordinarily complex issue, and far too often is used as a blanket statement to call anyone that is struggling lazy.

What are the restrictions for getting declined if you try to sign up? I honestly have no idea.

Anyway, a couple months ago I decided I’d give DoorDash a shot, because I had most weeknights free... thought it may be a decent secondary source of income to help pay for some of the extra expenses I’ve been dealing with leading up to the wedding.

Signed up for it, provided my SSN and car insurance info, approved the same day. I got into a routine of working most evenings Monday thru Thursday. It’s consistently the easiest $20+ per hour gig ever and I don’t have a super dense area of restaurants or work the normal popular times. Someone willing to take on more hours and peak times could blow my rate out of the water.

My point is - anyone with a car that doesn’t live in the boonies has a pretty amazing option at their disposal. No interview, no strict hours, no boss, good pay. Heck, do a few hours a week on top of your current job. Have small kids? Bring them along. Why more people don’t get into the gig economy is beyond me.
Unless you're in California where they're trying to kill the gig economy with AB5. Certain industries have gotten carve outs, and there's a proposition on the ballot to allow Uber/Lyft/DoorDash to keep operating as is. But if it fails, they have to treat all driver like employees. They also went after trucking, which would have essentially ended all owner operators, but that part is on hold till more legal proceedings determine if they're covered under federal jurisdiction. Unions are behind it, trying to get legislation to boost up their dwindling membership.

Right; but CA folks have been able to do work unencumbered in the gig economy since it’s inception up thru now, right? I started following some YouTube channels and blogs from experienced folks in this area and probably 75% of them are from San Diego or San Francisco.

Like Trump wouldn't be going for the throat if Biden was in the same situation?

Biden has been respectful during the last 24 hrs. Unlike many of his supporters publicly wishing and hoping for the POTUS to die. Even the orange man is not that cold.

You can't seriously believe he wouldn't. He wouldn't waste a second if the tables were turned.

Uber/Lyft/DoorDash have been able to operate as independent contractors because there was a lawsuit challenging AB5 pending. The lawsuit didn't go their way, so now prop 22 is a last ditch effort.

So many other industries have been given exemptions, it seems like now they're pretty much just keeping it in place against transportation industries, which would make sense since the teamsters were original proponents of the bill.

What planet are you on?

When the President's political enemies have died (Senator McCain & Congressman Dingell, to name just two), Trump's repeatedly "joked" they went to Hell, out loud, into microphones so that their still grieving families could hear it.

Be assured that whatever the worst thing in terms of ill-wishes you have heard made towards the President, Trump himself, his wife, and all those in his circle regularly say far, far worse. How many more recordings do you need?

I'd be astonished if all three cards combined (Trump, Biden, both) sold half as many copies as the Fauci by itself.

It'd be around the same. Who knows, maybe he pushes what 5 Democrat states did with nursing homes, and more die.

24-hour suspension for profanity.

Apparently, you cannot refer to the year 2020 as the c-word even if it is, in fact, very much the c-word.

I guess the mods didn’t appreciate my Ralph Garman reference.

Lesson learned, carry on.

Avoiding super spreader events is one of the keys to being able to manage the virus and move the economy forward. This circus of an administration could not even manage that.

For real? Even if it’s just for profanity?

Were low on left crazy. JD ... youre gonna have to quit your job and start triple posting.

U dont want that job anyway. From what I can tell, it requires work 91 hours a week and starts at the most random times of the day. U can do better!

Excellent book. Be warned, the author is pals with Trump!

There are books on how to do all kinds of things. There are tutorials online. I’ve learned so much just from reading and then applying what I had read.

Google: “books on how to make money” or “how to do ‘task x’”
Read the book.
Start trying.

Other generally helpful books I’d recommend are Think and Grow Rich, and my favorite, How to Win Friends and Influence People. The second one isn’t as straight forward as the name says. It’s a book on effective communication using examples from some of the most prominent figures in the 1800s and early 1900s.

I believe developing a robust skill set is incredibly important. If you’re stuck doing some mindless job at Walmart, try harder in life. Learn how to fix stuff around the house. Learn how to fix cars. Do things for free just for the sake of the knowledge. Hang out with friends who have skills that you don’t.

You gotta want this sh** if you’re ever going to turn a mediocre life into something more, and you’ll end up a better person for it. I spent years getting nowhere. A healthy dose of struggle isn’t a bad thing. Suffering builds character.

On the other side of the pond. Boris Johnson’s popularity has taken a dive. His party is getting ready to blame him for Covid handling and Brexit issues so they can choose new leader and go into the next election with promises to fix his mistakes. Probably

Exposure to different views is fine. I don't think anyone should tolerate homophobia though like I saw in a recent post in his thread.
