My guess is a more efficient supply chains and less barriers to enter than before. While I'll admit I don't know the history of why manufacturing wasn't always in China, if I had to guess without researching it, that would be my guess. I'm sure there has to be an answer but my guess is that wouldn't help your case.

https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/...cretary-quotes

From the article:
And taking her cue from the president, McEnany played down the threat of the coronavirus. On Trish Regan’s Fox Business Network show in late February, she praised Trump’s partial Chinese travel ban and asserted: “We will not see diseases like the coronavirus come here. And isn’t it refreshing when contrasting it with the awful presidency of President Obama?”

You don't say?

I missed no points.

If you think that unskilled labor should support a family like it did in the 60s, I'd say your out of touch.

First off, it kinda does. You can get a job in a warehouse that will pay for a two bedroom without air conditioning, a black and white tv with no cable, and a 1965 dodge dart. You seriously can do that today, same as then. Just like then, you won't have a cell phone or internet.

The world has moved on. Cell phones cost more than rotary phones. 75 inch TVs with netflix cost more than 24 inch black and whites with rabbit ears. And jobs today require more skill than they used to.

In the 1880s, you didn't need an education at all. But we don't live in the 1880s, so that's irrelevant.

Wages are considered "sticky" which means they will adjust in the long run. Maybe over time they would be fine, but in the short term, they would be killed by inflation.
For some products, you can start making it in the USA, and make a profit. Unfortunately, corporations care more about squeezing out the most profit than America.

Cracks me up. I'm not sure where this idea came from that simply being born in America came with an entitlement voucher to own a home and raise a family just because you spend 40 hours a week working somewhere, doing something. Seriously... who came up with that?

This doc is a few years old, but is still relevant.

If you haven't seen it, I will embed it here.

Because apparently they're not smart enough to find a roommate or two and live within their means.
It seems like the only one missing the points is you.

Who said they don't have the right to have three kids? Just don't have three kids and then whine about how hard it is to support them.

This isn't calculus.

I think we all have a different American vision. I and many on the left want people to have a fair shake and a chance at improving my situation without having to work two jobs and 60+ hours a week.

The right wants to make sure the rich accumulate more and more money at the expense of everyone else.

Naturally, you're talking about two different things while comparing them as if they are one and the same.

What is wrong with working two jobs to improve your situation?

Unless you are rich or a corporation. In that case you can find to loopholes, get bailouts, etc.

Alvarez09 isn't pissed that he has had it bad. He's pissed that others have had it good. That's the entire rub.

Lol, no way. They worry so much about unborn babies but care one bit once they are born.

Which is a valid point. They blame the parents for being irresponsible but what control does a child born into a poor household have over that and why by extension punish them...all that does is perpetuate the cycle.
