At this rate, I won't be shocked if role players get 100M a year in less than 20 years. Some of this salaries are insane.

The Steve Nash appointment was head-scratching at the time but now we can say for sure was just an absolute disaster.

And it was never about basketball

When i was a kid sometime around 1990 i used to hang pictures of my favorite players on my bedroom wall. I had one of Roger Clemens that said the highest paid player ever! 5 million a year.

So yeah you're probably not far off.

Payton has been grinding for years, happy to see him finally get a big payday. Guessing the Dubs had to choose between paying Looney or Payton. Maybe they go after someone like Bruce Brown now?

This is all sports. 2001 Brett Favre first NFL player with a 100 million dollar contract now in that sport 20 years later have guys getting 250 million dollar deals.

No player in any sport is worth $50 million a year. Now in any sport it seems you can't even get a good backup player for under $10 million a year.

What most of the people in this thread don't understand, is the cap is $123 million and projected for a very large increase when they secure the next media deal in a couple of years.

Why are you guys shocked? TV deal and revenues are rising, superstar/all star caliber players, high lottery picks can only take a significant portion of each teams salary cap.

Who else is getting that money?

Edit: dunkindutchmen beat me to it.

It was never a question:

Zion nearing a 5 year $231 million extension per Shams.

Dang...

I understand you have to do it if you're New Orleans but man this is risky. It's gotta have crazy protections in it.

Guys who complain about player salaries probably want the owners to keep 99% of the pie.

The economics of the tv deals are interesting when juxtaposed against declining subscriber base and ratings. Something will eventually have to give.

Of course he would.

Not exactly hard to put up 16.3/4.8 in 32 minutes in the NBA.

no, we dont want $250 a month cable bills, tickets to games being over $1k, and everything else that is overpriced. i get it though, people are willing to pay it, so it is what it is.
