Red Sox have a lot of off days over the next two weeks, so they'll be going to a 4 man rotation. Price / Wright / Porcello / Rodriguez. This will allow for an additional bench / bullpen arm as well, so for the quality of the Sox over the next 15 games, it's addition by subtraction.

Three real possibilities after the stretch of 4 man rotation is up.

1. Joe Kelly comes back to the rotation after showing in AAA that he's a capable MLB starter (I'll never believe what I just wrote, but two good AAA starts will give the illusion to try him again).
2. Roenis Elias / Henry Owens have a couple of solid back to back starts in Pawtucket where the walk totals are 3 or less ... and one of them is called back up.
3. Clay Buchholz finds something in the pen, and gets his shot back in the rotation.

I've ordered them as they're most likely to happen (in my opinion), but unless Boston pulls off a trade here mid-season, its definitely one of the three. As much as I would love to believe that Boston is done with the Kelly / Buccholz experiment ... I know they're not.

Sox have 3 off days over the next 12 day's so there is no need for a 5th starter, they brought up Noe Ramirez to shore up the BP for the immediate future.

Buchholz could in 2 weeks return to the starting rotation but that will be determined as how they intend to use him during this stretch, Roenis Elias has been pitching pretty well in Pawtucket and I would think if he continues to perform well he could be given a shot along with bringing Kelly back after a few rehab starts.

Any way you choose to look at the current situation with this staff, as far as I'm concerned they need to go out and get a proven major league 3-4 arm for the stretch drive as there is just not enough debt in this staff when you look at it.

I sat behind home plate for Elias 13 strike out effort in Pawtucket and he was not only throwing with great placement but was really mixing up his pitches having the batters off balance all day.

Owens is not the answer as he continues to walk 3-5 per game (30 W - 44 INN), where that might work in Pawtucket it's just not going to cut it in Boston!
