I wonder, do the motivation/interest/priorities to persevere in a given area constitute a "gift" in their own right?
Nope. Shaq’s height is a product of his environment. He was born at the perfect time when he was the oldest in his age group. As he dunked on short goals, that gave his body confidence to continue to grow as the goals kept being raised all the way to 10 feet.

Had you been born the same day right next door, gone to the same school, played the same sport(s), coached by the same coach(es), you would have been an all-Star “big man” as well. The book Outliers says so.

I’m sorry for your unfortunate misfortune.

Oldmanalan on Tuesday? Seems like he's the most discussed artist on the forum today. I can't wait to see his next one (I predict Willie Mays).

probably some boring picture of Willie from 1951/52, with a photoshopped border

Speaking of Oldmanalan...that is my favorite of his. Followed by the McGwire Bashers card.

sadly, i did buy his Griffey/Jackie for my Griffey/Jackie sets, and will be forced to spend on his:

Trout
Jeter
Gooden

but only one of each.

i guess he's also scammed me as well as topps.

I’m sure his skin is thick enough.

I put Ichiro on a skateboard. Why not?

Every photo I found of him looks like he had a perfect skateboarder stance!!

Drops tomorrow with JK5 McGwire.

Love it! It will be tough to top your Ripken--one of my favorites in the entire set--but I will definitely get one. I appreciate the details you've been including.

I won't be surprised if the Oldmanalan Mays is the best Mays we have seen yet.

If that's the card, even. Only speculation on my part. That said, although the Mays lineup has been weaker in my judgment, there are some highlights, including the Rochester one (101) which is a really nice card.

Not at all. I completely agree that people are born with different abilities and potential. I just think nurture plays a much bigger role than you are suggesting.

Blame it on the English language. It's awkward writing and saying "he or she" or s/he, and "they" is just bad grammar

Nurture plays a huge roll. I agree. So does nature.

“Naturally”, men have historically been able to outperform women in some physical sports. It’s evidenced by the fact men primarily play at the highest levels of sport, (NFL, NBA, MLB, NHL, etc.). (This in NO WAY is meant to offend women. If my sister saw me typing this, she’d be very upset. Women can do many things better than men).

If opportunity, (nurture), played a bigger role than nature, we’d have more women playing in the NBA, NFL, MLB, etc. than we do now. I’ve seen women work much harder than men.

What you are “born” with plays a HUGE role in you “potential” success and how far you can go. Nurture is what takes that potential and helps you rise above your peers. Both are necessary, in my opinion, but if you’re not born with the right stuff, others with less nurturing can overcome your success, no matter how well-nurtured you are.

My confidence of an actual coffee table book being produced grows with every mention of it! I salute you sir.
