Here's my cards & grades w/the notes I had jotted down (in parenthesis) I made before:

(Should be 9, maybe 10 - MG9) 2008 Topps Chrome TC163 Tom Brady Refractor - Did not meet minimum grade
(Looks like a 9) 2006 Topps 123 LeBron James - PSA 9 Mint
(6 or 7?) 1985 Topps WWF 16 Hulk Hogan - PSA 6 Excellent - Mint
(6 or 7?) 1985 Topps WWF 16 Hulk Hogan - PSA 8 Near Mint - Mint
(hopefully 9) 2004 Bowman 23 LeBron James - PSA 10 Gem Mint

*shoulder shrug emoji*
Gem rates are down, but if you gem on the right card as you did that is a bonus for sure.

Well, .134 was a little rough. I’m just glad 2/3 of my Wanders Gem’d.

I actually did pretty good on mine. 24/38 10s. However, 2/3 of my Herro base got a 5. What?? Lol. I’m so confused. I’m very picky on what I send in as seen by my GEM rate. Especially now with what seems like strict grading. I’m just at a lost. Looks like another submitter got a 5 for Herro, also a Tatum got a 5. For the record, I blame PSA.

Josh - do you guys inspect slabs as they come in to make sure PSA didn’t error? They are pumping out submissions and just want to hold them accountable. A 5 on ultra modern is crazy lol. No way am I sending in an ultra modern that seems less than an 8 or 9.

Sorry for the rant. Luckily just some base Herros. Just don’t want someone else to get screwed with higher value cards on a PSA error.

I had 4/9 Gem, which isn’t bad at all and I can’t complain with how others have gotten beat up. None of my LouBob’s Gem’d, and one got an 8 lol. I can’t wait to see what I missed. Still blows my mind the others didn’t Gem. I was expecting a few 9’s, but definitely not those! But hey, I’ll take my Wander Mega and base Gem’s and walk away smiling. Now .97, that one might be brutal for me considering almost everything is paper.

I dont pay super close attention to whats coming back but spot checking it I would say that it hasnt changed much. I think a lot of people got used to "PSA is handing out 10's" and they lowered their standards on what to send in. Hell, some people post that they are handing out 10's still. There is a luck factor to graders because Ive seen people get crushed and send in a bunch for reviews and they pop to a 10. That is definitely true on individual subs. As a whole I think it might have tightened ever so slightly because of more strict graders vs grading standard changes.

Honestly a lot of the lower grades lately is likely that people started sending in a lot more expected 9s. A lot of the subs coming back are from Summer and Early Fall last year when it started to become clear that the new economics of 9s would have staying power. Specifically, the difference between a 9 and a raw on most cards was higher than the grading fee by enough to justify grading everything that's a solid 9 with even a small shot to 10. Theres a ton of older modern cards where most raws are 8 or lower condition where 9s can fetch a pretty significant premium. Hence, people started sending in way more 9 material whereas back in the day you'd have only sent in stuff with a good shot to 10.

Now there is going to be a deluge of 9s and I expect the 9 premium over raw may crumble on a lot of ultra modern.

I can almost guarantee that the 5's are something you missed and not a PSA error.

That would make sense for a new person but it doesn't explain the countless people that have not changed their standards at all and went from 70% to 30% gem rate. I guess it will be a lot more obvious if a set like Bowman's Best with a 90% gem rate suddenly drops drastically.

5 is likely a surface crease. I got a 5 on a 2018 NT RPA because of a small surface crease on the patch window.

9's shouldn't be profitable in reality. Ultra modern cards should always be a 9 or better. That is the inefficiency in the market getting exploited by the low price of grading.

But to knock it down all the way to a 5 would make me think a pretty noticeable issue. Just seems odd. Very interested to see in person.

Also what’s crazy is that that I looked at the Pop report for Prizm Herros and there are 322 5s. Total 5s for the entire 2019 prizm population is 1,102. So that means Herro accounts for almost 30% of all 5s. There must be some serious print issues with those and people not able to notice it.

I just got results of a 100 card personal this AM

78 - 10's
20 - 9's
1 - 8.5
1 - 3

Needless to say with all the people discussing their rough grades I was a bit worried. Maybe I got a good grader, maybe not - but as Josh say's - be picky, review front & BACK and more than likely you will be happy

I always thought a topps complete set of PSA 1s would be hilarious. Of like all of the top modern rookies in PSA 1s lol.

It would be a very expensive set that has very little resale value.
