Megas definitely seem to be overpriced compared to the other boxes. Pulled no auto or numbered card in the one I opened.

Out of retails, which has been the best product?
Hanger, Blaster or Fat Pack?

Hangers and fat packs provided great value for me.

Lol. Numbered cards are nearly impossible to come by in any format. I’ve opened about 45 retail boxes across every format and have yet to pull any. Only two autos as well.

Best for me have been Mega boxes and it’s not even close. After that though, hangers.

I've only hit 4 total color chromes in about $530 MSRP of hangers and fat packs (two silver, one green, one bronze), whereas I hit 7 color chromes in 24 blasters at $530 MSRP (4 silver, 3 pink). I still think the silvers have a PR under 1000, and the bronzes are SSP (under 25, likely 10 or less).
Your thoughts on autos? Trying to gauge print run of the airborne reds. There's only one Ja listed. A dozen or so of the hobby /99 have beem listed and sold.

Hi everyone.

New member here. Just got back into the hobby after running into some packs randomly at Walmart and now I'm hooked!

Got a question about valuing these cards. I've been using eBay sales mostly to look up card values but they're all over the place. Generally speaking, how do people estimate long term value on basketball cards these days?

For example I pulled a Silver Anthony Davis Prizm Update the other day and that card sold for $1000 last week and $400 this week. Is this kind of card worth holding onto long term or is it better to flip sooner rather than later so I can buy more packs to rip? I'm not a big Davis fan so I'm not really looking to keep the card for my PC.

First welcome and enjoy. Those cards fluctuate a lot. First few get big dollars then they stabilize after a couple of weeks. Should he keep dominating that card will go back up. If he wins a championship, his first laker Prizm will explode.

I'm about halfway thru my break (started with 55 hangers and 180 fat packs ... I have opened 25 hangers and 80 fat packs). The condition improved greatly after my first few fat packs and hangers ... not sure what the deal is there. Anyway ... my cost on what I've ripped is $1950. I have pulled 59 Zion (5 chrome, 1 silver) and 56 Morant (2 chrome), and at least half are gradeable. Guess I'm just going to have to find the time to grade.

Man, I have no idea. They aren't numbered, so the big names are probably SSP.

FWIW, I have pulled 5 autos in about $1350 of retail (MSRP).

I agree with The_Reverend. Also take into consideration as well on the centering of your copy. Prizm has been notorious for off-centered cards so the better centered ones carry more of a premium as well.

Only seen 2 total Zions too, gotta be SSP question is how many...

On another note I’m shocked nobody ponied up the $75 to 10 day a Ja luminance to PSA. I’m sure the first 10 will carry a nice premium

I pulled a pink Ja Luminance and I'm planning on grading it to keep for my PC. That has the be the best photograph on a basketball card ever. I feel like it will always be a sought after card just because of the picture.

I pulled three Ja Luminance already and only one was grade-worthy, so it’s on its way to PSA right now. I sent it with a standard sub, and I think my last standard took about two months to complete. I’m hoping mine grades well but I’m sure there will be a bunch on the market already by the time it comes back.

Just grabbed a sealed fat pack box for 330. Seems pretty decent given the going rate.

No clue why these cello boxes are selling for so much more than loose packs. It's not like you're guaranteed some big hit in every cello box. When you can buy over 24 packs for the cost of having 12 in a little box sealed makes no sense why anyone would take the 12.

Cellos easily searched and/or manhandled. Plus the sealed cello sku is probably the rarest of all Chronicles products with the possible exception of Megas.

Easily searched for what? The very rare chance you get an auto? Even if someone can see the last card and see its crap that's only 1 of 15 cards. That's less than 7% of the cards at best. All other packs should weigh the same. I'll take over double the amount of packs versus a sealed box any day.

Opened 30 fatties and 7 hangers today. Nothing huge.
Fat pack condition is pretty rough.

Read above. That's probably one of the main reasons why sealed boxes are selling for a premium.

I mean you just ignore the other two points I made as well, lol. Go for double the packs, to each their own.

Packs are see through. Very easy to know what’s in them.
